My son is 13 and enjoys historical fiction, adventure. He has recently read Peak and The things They Carry. Does anyone have any suggestions for similar books?
Thanks!

I'm assuming hes read Harry Potter, but if by some chance he hasnt then he must. He should also try The Outsiders, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.

The "My Side of the Mountain" Trilogy is always good for young people especially boys. This sounds more in line with the books he has read already. It's more of an easy read but there are three so that should take up some more time. It's an adventure series about a young man surviving on his own in the mountains.
Another author I love is Ned Vizzini. It's not adventure or history but if you want to branch out more anything by him is good. I'm partial to "Be More Chill", where a young nobody eats a special computer chip to make him cool and fit in, it all comes together in the end and is fun. Also his other book, "It's Kind of a Funny Story" will be made into a movie next year so that might be good to read before it comes out.
"Teen Angst..Nah" is also a quick read by Vizzini about growing up in the 90's and all the things the author liked as a boy. It's semi-autobiographical and very quirky and fun.

Hmmm definitely try the Pendragon books by D. J. MacHale (hopefully I remembered the correct spelling) They're not historical fiction per-say but they are good books. Also try the Inheritance books by Christopher Paolini if he hasn't yet. Also not historical fic but still a decent series that he would probably enjoy.
I'm guessing he hasn't fully explored YA lit yet? I didn't recognize those titles. I'll keep my eyes out for historical fic books. The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are the Gemma Doyle series and The Sally Lockhart series.
I also recomend Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. Completely amazing and I guess it could be considered historical fic. It's more of an alternate version of WWI.
Hope that helped.

Hm. I agree with the series that were already posted here.
Percy Jackson is a wonderful series that I find that my little brother really enjoys, and he's not much of a reader. The Pendragon series would also be a good one, even though I've never finished it. It's interesting enough.
Also, maybe you could reccommend the Series Of Unfortuante Events series. They're cleverly written, and would most definitely occupy his time for a bit.
Harry Potter is also another good series. If your son really likes to read, he should try them out if he hasn't read them already. (:
Hope I helped.
I hugged. I'm done."

He should read The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. Its a very good book especially for boys. Though a book more about adventure and historic times has to be The Magic Tree House series even though its a 4th grade reading level book.
