Is it difficult to finish?

I've found many of comments on the writing style here very interesting.

Some have expressed trouble "sinking in" to the voice of the novel, so I'm wondering, does this voice get easier to navigate, or is this a difficult novel to finish?

Rachel, I have just started but I honestly have not found anything too troublesome so far; except possibly for the Indian words that I do not know the meaning of. I think the book is well written so far; but it describes very sordid environments and maybe that is the issue. Also, it is possible that there are some cultural sensitivities in how certain groups are portrayed and depicted. Maybe these images are very accurate; but possibly embarrassing.

I read this for a group last year and I did finish it, but found it very difficult to do so. I couldn't read more than 1/2 hour at a time. That is very unlike me.
