I feel such a sense of affection for these characters, and yet they are ridiculed so fiercely in the book! What do you make of these women, living like British tourists in their own country? What of Lola's bitter class rivalries with other women?
And what of Noni? I have a sense of detached, intellectual compassion from her, but is that accurate?
I'd love to hear any opinions of them!
I felt these characters are a prime example of how Desai seems to both make fools of her characters and hold them dear.
