You can tell a lot of love went into this app by the little details. When you enter text into the boxes, it actually sounds like pencil scratches. The clues have the number of letters next to them, and there is instant feedback when you are right or wrong. No more counting boxes or double checking your work without somehow peeking at the answers! After trying out Crosswords Deluxe it’s going to be hard to go back to paper and pencil.
Another feature that I love is that every right word earns a display of stars and happy sounds, finishing a puzzle gives fireworks of stars too! It just makes solving the puzzle that much more satisfying.
If you connect your device through Wi-Fi, you can download the daily (and weekly) crosswords directly to your NOOK, and you can also submit your score onto a leaderboard to keep track of your progress. The crosswords come in easy, medium and hard options (and at various sizes) so you can work your way up the levels. And, if you are ever truly stuck, a hint button displays one letter at a time (which is nice when you just need a little bit of help).
This is truly a standout crossword app at an unbeatable price. I think it deserves a place on your shelf!
A word of warning for Nook HD+ users: This app crashes constantly! Each day I have to send the app to Nook Cloud and then redownload. I am able to work puzzles only as long as I keep the app open or do not connect to wifi. After closing the app or connecting to wifi, the uninstall/reinstall process starts all over and erases all stored puzzles (basically resets the entire app). The app works well... when it works
