Your trusty App Buzz blogger Tavares is taking a well-deserved few days off, so today I'll be bringing you the latest news from the world of NOOK Apps.
In fact, we're doing something a little bit different this week. Over the holidays, NOOK owners downloaded a whole lot of apps, and we've compiled a list of our recent top free and paid app downloads. Gamers love the Angry Birds fanchise, word nerds are wild for Words with Friends & NOOK Word of the Day, and movie buffs are huge Fandango fans. Hopefully these popular apps will strike your fancy, too.

The 10 free & paid apps is nothing new. I would NOT pay for Angry Birds or Word with Friends when other devices have them for free (like the Kindle Fire my sister-in-law owns) so don't bother I am waiting when Barnes and Noble and Nook get smart and put some of the paid apps on the free list

these are nice, but they all work only on the color nook which I don't have.

Love these apps and I don't mind paying a little for them. When you think about it you are getting quite a bit out of them. The apps can be installed on up to 6 devices instead of one with each device app being independent. That's the nice part about it.
I do not see them free elsewhere for the full versions, plus anyone interested in buying a nook color/tablet could easily look on B&N website to see the prices.

Absolutely LOVE Words with Friends! I had been playing on facebook, but this is so much better! No ads, faster and I can play with those of my friends who choose to play using their Android devices instead! I don't mind paying for them. Now, bring on Farmville!!

I don't have a problem paying for apps, but I guess I'm not clear on why an app is free in some venues and not others.
If the Words with Friends app is ad-free for Nook, I think we should have a choice: pay (no ads) or free (ads). have a problem when the app is free for several devices but not for another. Perhaps there were additional costs in porting the apps to the device, or some other cost that must be passed along to the consumer, but without some explanation, it feels like a rip-off, although it may not actually be one.
I looked at some of the app reviews, and Ms. Pacman is not free for Android. There is a free sample, but the full app costs a few dollars.

I have an android phone and yeah it kinda bugs me that so many of the apps on nook cost a few bucks and are free on android if you don't mind the ads. Which I don't when I am trying to decide if I want the app or not. If I love the app I don't mind paying for it, but I would hate to buy one just to find that I don't really like it. It does feel like a rip off maybe if we knew why the apps that are free other places aren't here we would be okay with it. I don't know. Other than that I love my nook tablet.

So glad we are now getting access to some of the better apps out there. I don't mind paying for apps as long as they are ad free. I don't understand the concept of why some apps are free on other platforms but cost something on others. I have the devices I want and if i have to pay a nominal fee for a lifetime of use...hey it's worth it to me! But like I said, I'm just glad nook is finally catching up with the rest of technology!

I am aware that the original use for my Nook Color is for reading. I am lucky enough to have the Nook Color, so I can use it as a tablet. I just recently downloaded a time management game, as they are my favorite, and went looking for more. There aren't any. How come? No Diner Dash? No Cake Mania? No Delicious Emily's anything...Any ideas out there? Can I download from somewhere else?

I just bought my nook tablet 3 days ago and I am seriously considering taking it back. I understood that the app library would not be the same as iTunes, but come on. Kindle has a BOAT LOAD of apps and give an app for free everyday. It is ridiculous that FB and Angry Birds are not free apps. Yes, they have ads, but that is the point of it being free.
I think the nook is a better device, but what is available on it doesn't feel like it is worth the extra $50 I paid for it. Really disappointed with this purchase right now...

the complete lack of apps is highly noticeable. if nook wants to succeed they should open up. The hardware is awesome, the OS is fin, but the walled approach doesn't work if you are not apple.

I'm dissapointed, With the new update I can't download anything! Just because I don't have a U.S. Billing Address. Now my favorite Tablet has convert to the worst :/
