Whenever the new year rolls around, I always feel like it’s time to tackle big projects—opportunity abounds!
Besides cleaning out the coat closet and waxing the floors, I’ve been looking for some great new book series that I can sink my teeth into this year. The new NOOK First in a Series collection is a great place to start. In addition to the time-tested offerings below, there are a bunch more multi-volume favorites to explore in the full collection.
Book series are usually synonymous with fiction, but don’t forget about the many excellent multi-volume non-fiction offerings available for NOOK as well. Pulitzer Prize-winner Robert A. Caro has devoted his life to writing the essential biography of Lyndon Johnson, and The Path to Power is the book that started it all.
It seems that book series are a constant on the teen bestseller charts—the covers and characters change over the years, but young adults always support good series fiction. The Shadow Falls saga is one of today’s best YA series—featuring a fascinating camp for paranormal (you know, vamps, werewolves, witches and the like) outcasts. Get into the action with Born at Night, the bestselling first book.
Tell Me: What series have you recently started?

The Gastien Series by Caddy Rowland has been a great series. Once I picked it up I could not put it down. It's a historical family saga that starts in France and comes to the United States. It will surprise you, bring tears of joy, anger and hope all at the same time. I felt the pain each character went through and the happy triumph when they had success. The last book in the series comes out this spring and I am looking forward to reading it.

The Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold is great. Depending on the book, it covers romance, space opera, military sci-fi, political saga, and just excellent story telling and characters. The newest book is Captain Vorpatril's Alliance. The series starts with Shards of Honor.

I love the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, first book in the series is "Magic Bites". Of course I think my favorite Fantasy series is The Belgeriad by David Eddings..."Pawn of Prophecy" is the first book in that series.
For good (and short) Young Adult series, I enjoyed The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod series by Heather Brewer...first book in the series is "Eighth Grade Bites". A couple of adult paranormal romance writers have created series that I've found very enjoyable: Kresley Cole's "Poison Princess", the first book in The Arcana Chronicles and Sherrilyn Kenyon has The Chronicles of Nick series, the first book is "Infinity".
For a really good Junior Fiction read, I'm throughly enjoying the The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan, first book is "The Lost Hero". Of course this is the second series with Percy Jackson, if you want to find out what he was doing before the Heroes of Olympus series, check out the "The Lightning Thief" first book in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series.

I am just finishing "The Guardians" series by Katie Klein. Very good reading. Not your typical YA paranormal book.

Without a doubt "The Ender's Game" series by Orson Scott Card. Fully realized humanity, in humans, aliens, and one very smart machine, in the first four books. Absolutely fascinating.

I am currently reading "Dying Light" by Stuart MacBride. It is the second in the Logan McRae series. The first in the series, "Cold Granite," was featured here as a Free Friday selection and after reading it, I became a Logan McRae fan.
