In today’s Free Fridays selection, All Roads Lead to Austen by Amy Elizabeth Smith, the author injects a spirit of adventure into her book club quest—traveling across Latin America with a suitcase full of Jane Austen’s oeuvre, stopping along the way to set up local book clubs to spread the gospel of Jane.

Across the continent, Smith shares her love of Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and Pride and Prejudice with taxi drivers and teachers, poets and politicians—and in turn sees her favorite books in a whole new way.

Whether you’re a world traveler or an armchair adventurer, you’ll find a lot to love in this endearing tale of a literary journey that leads to many unexpected places. You’ll come away wondering what the great Jane Austen herself would have thought about our intrepid narrator's unusual quest.

Free Fridays Recommends

Each week, we ask our featured author to recommend a book or author that you may want to check out. Since authors are such passionate readers themselves, we thought you might like to find out what they love to read, too! Here’s what Amy recommends:

NOOK owners: go to shop and search for “Amy Smith” to download her journey with Jane.

The FF selections have really gone downhill. In the last 2 months, there was one, maybe two, books worth downloading. Lasts week's selection was so ridiculous that I just could not finish. I now regret moving up from NC to NT

Rxtech06 sorry you are not happy with ff but they are free just be grateful you can get anything for free ninths day and age. If you don't like what you see don't download them. Jeez don't kick a gift horse in the mouth. Quit complaining.

If you are going to post free books, please give a link - make everyone's life easier. Just sayin.

FF is a big selling point for the Nook, so I do have the right to give an opinion, and I don't think of it as a "gift". Even more so since I read roughly 1 book a day, and spend plenty of money doing so. People complain if someone comments negatively on the book review page, so which is it? In the USA we have the ability to give an opinion freely

Ha ha oscar34, didn't mean to Laura your post. Ah, the perils of touch screen :smileyhappy:

Thanks to all who posted free books this week. I agree with runningwithscalpels if you are going to post please provide a link it does make it easier. Last week didn't find to much to be excited about. I just thought oh well some Fridays are like that. This week however, there was enough to keep me reading for quite a while. Thanks again to all.

Probably the first Free Friday selection I won't download that has come by in a long time - but hey to each his own!  Thanks regardless!  Butterfly13 and Spec gave me quite a bit of downloads this week anyway, thanks again!

While we're on the subject, anyone heard from Jeff lately?  I always downloaded almost every Sci-Fi/Fantasy book he listed and his Teen offerings were also top notch, but I have noticed he hasn't been around for a few weeks now.  :smileysad:

Not everyone who finds us free books has time to post the links. (I don't really have time either, I am procrastinating!)  So here are links (with corrections for a couple of typos in the original post) for the books posted by jerseygalatheart - Thanks for finding these for us!  :smileyhappy:

Oh heavens! Thank you, all of you, for so many free books! Of course not all of them appeal to me, but my Nook now contains a surfeit of TBR and I have so much fun selecting which book I'll read next! Free Friday is wonderful, and I appreciate Spec, JFroJeff, Butterfly13, and everyone who posts books they find free, too! Amazing gift of your time even if the selections aren't suited for my quirky taste!

I only found a couple of books this time, but appreciate all those that posted :smileyhappy:

Thanks to each one of you who took the time to share your "free" book finds. And thank you Barnes and Noble for creating "Free Friday". I look forward to it each week. I am very grateful to be able to own a Nook Color and have reading as my way of escaping for a while. It's great to try out new authors and also not have to travel back and forth to the library to check out books.

Again... THANK YOU!!

Thanks Jeremy...LOVE me some Jane Austen whether it's zombies or vampires...lol  Thanks to butterfly and anyone else that put lists for us to try...Of course the men are not going to like the romances...I try to find something for my husband who likes mysteries and Bourne type stories, but not so many of those. I of course, love the romances so very happy!
