In today’s Free Fridays selection, All Roads Lead to Austen by Amy Elizabeth Smith, the author injects a spirit of adventure into her book club quest—traveling across Latin America with a suitcase full of Jane Austen’s oeuvre, stopping along the way to set up local book clubs to spread the gospel of Jane.
Across the continent, Smith shares her love of Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and Pride and Prejudice with taxi drivers and teachers, poets and politicians—and in turn sees her favorite books in a whole new way.
Whether you’re a world traveler or an armchair adventurer, you’ll find a lot to love in this endearing tale of a literary journey that leads to many unexpected places. You’ll come away wondering what the great Jane Austen herself would have thought about our intrepid narrator's unusual quest.
Free Fridays Recommends
Each week, we ask our featured author to recommend a book or author that you may want to check out. Since authors are such passionate readers themselves, we thought you might like to find out what they love to read, too! Here’s what Amy recommends:
NOOK owners: go to shop and search for “Amy Smith” to download her journey with Jane.
