“Elegantly constructed, skillfully written, and absolutely impossible to stop reading.” – Booklist (starred review)

In the near future, the government has created a virtual-reality military training ground called the Demi-Monde, where troops prepare for urban warfare. To train them for the worst imaginable scenarios, the virtual war zone is led by tyrants who are modeled on some of history’s most evil characters. It’s truly a chamber of horrors.

Now the President’s daughter has been drawn into the Demo-Monde, and the dangers of the effective but circumspect program are brought to light. As a rescue effort ensues, it's clear that the boundary between this powerful virtual world and the real world is breaking down, putting civilization at great risk.

The highly-anticipated book in this remarkable series, The Shadow Wars, is available for pre-order now.

Free Fridays Recommends

Each week, we ask our featured author to recommend a book or author that you may want to check out. Since authors are such passionate readers themselves, we thought you might like to find out what they love to read, too! Here’s what Rod recommends:

This week as been so very busy for me this is the first time even thinking about lookIng at Free books all week let alone doing it, so sorry will get something up next week. Thank you Spec looking forward to reading the American Trivia, I just love that kind of stuff.

My own personal note to B&N wish you would offer non-fiction or history on FF more often.

Thanks B&N and Jeremy I do like dystopian fiction, I love finding new authors and there's no better place to do that than here.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend full of reading :smileyhappy:

I am so sick of people posting negative comments on the Free Friday books.  They are free and then there are tons of other free books that people post or you can search for all on your own.  Stop complaining and lowering the ratings of the books.  Thanks to everyone who posts.  I love reading the posts each week.  Sometimes I download none, sometimes many.  Love the surprises.

A huge THANKS to B&N ,Spec,JfroJeff,Butterfly13 and all other readers who post free books!  My NOOK library would be sadly lacking without your posts.

Is anyone aware if the FF book is appropriate for teens?  My son enjoys distopian fiction like The Hunger Games.

Just stopping by for my usual "free friday fix"!  Thanks again to all who post the freebie treasures they find here to share.  You guys and gals rock!

I just wanted to squeal with delight when I found the fifth of a series book on Christian fiction.  I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea and that's ok, but this little series has picked me up when I am down.  It takes a lot to get me to purchase a 200 page book (like um bigger for the money) but after getting all these free, I can and will justify the cost of the next one!

Cold weather, good books, and the Superbowl.. if you live in the present.. and you are reading this getting your free friday books as well... life is good! :-)

Thanks again for the FF books.  I grabbed a couple to share with the kids, and love the Trivia book.  Also, the hospital operations book - I am looking forward to participatory health care.

Happy Weekend!
