Exciting Free Fridays News!

Starting today, every Friday we'll be highlighting a free NOOK App in addition to each week's book selection. Read on to discover today's Free Fridays App pick.

Rhodes made a splash on the literary scene in the 1970s, but a tragic motorcycle accident derailed his promising career. Driftless is his first novel in 30 years, and it's certainly worth the wait. Set in a rural and remote southwestern Wisconsin town, Rhodes' novel explores the lives of ordinary people who face extraordinary challenges. From an invalid who gambles away her family’s savings, to a widowed pastor who’s falling in love again, the intertwined stories form a portrait of our varied and complex human condition.

Luckily you won’t have to wait another 30 years for David Rhodes' next novel. Jewelweed is available for pre-order now.

We wanted to make a big splash for our very first Free Fridays App, so we turned to one of our favorite and most useful apps: OfficeSuite Professional 7 – a $14.99 value!

In today’s mobile culture, we’re all used to the convenience of being able to work whenever and wherever we are. With OfficeSuite, you can create, view, edit and print Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files and attachments and view PDF files right on your NOOK. So when you’re at lunch and get an urgent email from your boss, just open OfficeSuite to get to work while you’re on-the-go.

Once you’ve used OfficeSuite Professional 7 a few times, you’ll wonder how you survived without it, so make sure you grab this limited-time free offer today!

Free Fridays Recommends

Each week, we ask our featured author to recommend a book or author that you may want to check out. Since authors are such passionate readers themselves, we thought you might like to find out what they love to read, too! Here’s what David recommends:

A great choice for this week! :smileyhappy:

David Rhodes hails from Des Moines, IA - just down the Interstate from where I am in Iowa City - and earned his MFA from the UI Writers' Workshop in 1971.  He lives in Wisconsin now, but we still think of him as a local.

If you like Driftless I highly recommend his 1975 novel Rock Island Line.

Today's free book looks wonderful.  I'm eager to read it.  And I love the idea of a free app as well.  This one is not for me but I will look forward to others.  I do look forward to Free Fridays!

Wow! Thanks for the free app and the free book. The app didn't automatically download but I went to the "shop" setting and was able to download it from there.

I look forward to Fridays and free books. The genre isn't always my favorite, but many times I download to try something new.

for an HD+ newbie, what a fine Free Friday gift. As if this week's book Driftless weren't enough, B&N now has Free Friday App starting with an MS Office big bang. Thank you, Barnes, for the HD+ experience and for your generous Free Friday opportunities. You've made the Nook HD+ tablet the best way to go at the best price. My Nook First Edition is still active and useful. That said, the HD+ has gone immeasurably beyond it.

I was super excited when I saw the free Office Pro app; and downloaded it immediately. However, I was quickly disappointed upon discovering that you can't print from Office Pro unless you have Google Chrome and Cloud Print in order to print the document. True to form...Google Chrome and Cloud Print are not available from B&N.

The way it is supposed to work (just to clarify...) is you install Google chrome and cloud print on your device. You add the printer via google chrome on your PC via your google account.  You type up your document or whatever and then select print. Google chrome sends the document to cloud print. You open up cloud print and select your document and print it.

Now, to be clear, with the Office Pro my HD+ shows my printer...but it won't print to it because I don't have the cloud printer and Chrome (it keeps saying error)

I have another android device on which I was able to do this and it worked perfectly.

So, unless someone can tell me or offer advice as to how to get something to print using it, I'm not sure what the value of having the app is.

Barnes and Noble amazes me with all of the free Nook Books they give us.  I appreciate the different genres and often find I really like a book, even though it's not something I would normally read!  Wonderful when that happens!  I still use my Nook 1st Edition for reading outside, it's great in the bright sun, now I love my Nook HD and really appreciate Barnes and Noble adding an app to their free Friday selection!  I also really appreciate all the fine folks that take their time to post addtional selections, thank you to everyone!

Fridays are the best!
