There are very few things that get a kid’s attention like dinosaurs. Those prehistoric beasts make their imaginations run wild. The Berenstain cubs are no different, so when they find out that someone’s stolen genuine fossils from the museum, they are eager to take the case. With the help of Professor Actual Factual, the bears set out to track down the missing fossils and return them to the collection, where everyone will have a chance to enjoy them.

The G-Rex Bones is just one of many fun and wholesome Berenstain Bears adventures available now on NOOK.

The concept is quite simple—you’re at the helm of a ship that’s navigating treacherous waters, and the only way to get your vessel moving is by creating the longest possible word out of the letters scrambled before you. Your ship will be propelled forward with each new word, and the longer the word, the farther it will move you ahead of the other ships that stand in your way. I loved the satisfaction of finding an impressively long word hidden among the letters, and watching my boat sail past the competition!

Once you’ve put your lexicological skills to the test with Word Race, there are dozens of other challenging apps from Agile Fusion in the NOOK Store for you to master.

Free Fridays Recommends

Each week, we ask our featured author to recommend a book or author that you may want to check out. Since authors are such passionate readers themselves, we thought you might like to find out what they love to read, too! Here’s what Mike Berenstain, the authors’ son who has also written books for the Berenstain Bears series, recommends:

This charming fantasy and its sequels were among my favorites growing up. Not only did they reveal the wonders of such fascinating realms as Tangerina, Popsicornia and Nevergreen City but introduced one of the most whimsically named literary protagonists, Elmer Elevator. Of great interest for me, too, is the fact that they were created by a daughter/mother writing and illustrating team, foreshadowing my own decades-long collaboration with my parents, Stan and Jan.

good selection for the kids...but i do not have any and i actually grew up with them....thanks for a good selection.. though

by debbiee1955 on ‎06-28-2013 07:48 AM

I am sure all the parents with kids love this free Friday selection, but as an adult with no kids, this week's selection as the free Friday book is disappointing to say the least.  Maybe when you offer a free kid's book in the future you could have two selections - one for adults and one for kids.

Looks like the kids (and us kids-at-heart) get a real treat this week!

Here's one that is still free, in case anyone missed it.

It's the "2013 AARP Almanac: Free Stuff, Scams and Savings, Diet and Health Tips, Movie Classics and More."

Happy reading this weekend to everyone!

I'm getting this for my grandkids. They love to read or play on my Nook when they come to visit!

by lilbitGA on ‎06-28-2013 08:00 AM

I don't have any kids, but my 2 y/o nephew LOVES my nook and can navigate his way around. Thanks for all the selections!

Great - a book for the kids and some outstanding offerings from the generous and thoughtful folks that visit here each week. B&N is the best with the best customers!

by 3rdGenerationTexasAggie on ‎06-28-2013 08:10 AM

This is obvously just for the the nook color folks.  Sorry there is nothing for us loyal folks who have those early generation nooks and have taken care of them and been good customers for years.

I got tickled when I saw the Bernstein Bears offered as a free book! Wish I still had kids around because I would sure get it! (I may get it for myself! LOL) I know others will enjoy tho! Its great to see that books are offered to kids now and then. Its after all a book that gets you hooked on reading! Hope we have more readers coming up!

Thanks to everyone else that posted freebies! Was able to find a couple and looking forward to a great weekend.

For those who may travel in the next week - be safe! Happy reading everyone!

LOVE this book!  I'm glad to see a great book for kids offered this week.  My daughter, and now my grandkids, love these books!  Thanks again :smileyhappy:

Love the books selected - My grand kids love Berenstain Bears and My Father's Dragon was a favorite when we homeschooled.

I love how BN tries to showcase FF for everyone. I've no kids here to share this weeks free app/book, but I'm sure there are some families out there who will appreciate it. With summer vacation in full swing, getting kids to read is important to avoid the three-month slippage. Thank you BN and thank you to all you wonderful people for searching out other free books to keep us all happy.
