There are very few things that get a kid’s attention like dinosaurs. Those prehistoric beasts make their imaginations run wild. The Berenstain cubs are no different, so when they find out that someone’s stolen genuine fossils from the museum, they are eager to take the case. With the help of Professor Actual Factual, the bears set out to track down the missing fossils and return them to the collection, where everyone will have a chance to enjoy them.

The G-Rex Bones is just one of many fun and wholesome Berenstain Bears adventures available now on NOOK.

The concept is quite simple—you’re at the helm of a ship that’s navigating treacherous waters, and the only way to get your vessel moving is by creating the longest possible word out of the letters scrambled before you. Your ship will be propelled forward with each new word, and the longer the word, the farther it will move you ahead of the other ships that stand in your way. I loved the satisfaction of finding an impressively long word hidden among the letters, and watching my boat sail past the competition!

Once you’ve put your lexicological skills to the test with Word Race, there are dozens of other challenging apps from Agile Fusion in the NOOK Store for you to master.

Free Fridays Recommends

Each week, we ask our featured author to recommend a book or author that you may want to check out. Since authors are such passionate readers themselves, we thought you might like to find out what they love to read, too! Here’s what Mike Berenstain, the authors’ son who has also written books for the Berenstain Bears series, recommends:

This charming fantasy and its sequels were among my favorites growing up. Not only did they reveal the wonders of such fascinating realms as Tangerina, Popsicornia and Nevergreen City but introduced one of the most whimsically named literary protagonists, Elmer Elevator. Of great interest for me, too, is the fact that they were created by a daughter/mother writing and illustrating team, foreshadowing my own decades-long collaboration with my parents, Stan and Jan.

To debbiee1955 and others who are disappointed that today's Free Fridays selection is a children's book, may I recommend you scroll through the comments and choose some free books posted by other contributors that may be more to your liking.

I am thrilled Jeremy and B&N are offering free children's nook books and apps.  Instilling a love of reading early in a child's life literally opens the world to them.

I, too, have no little ones but downloaded many of the free dhildren's books offered today.  You never know when you may want or need to entertain a youngster and what better way than with a book.

Many thanks to multiple contributors who took the time and effort to research and post more free offerings.  It is thanks to you that I am able to carry around a vast library in my purse and ready at the "touch" of a finger.  Please know that I--and a multitude of others--appreciate your efforts.

Kudos to you all!!!

I enjoy seeing the variety you have, even if I don't find them interesting. Please know we appreciate all the work and time you give to find us a new book and app each week.

I always manage to find 1 or 2 books that I can get for free. the ones that scare me is when it is book 1 of a series, cause needless to say I usually end up getting the rest of the series. They are usually authors I have never heard of before,so I am excited to be able to expand my reading horizons. As far as the Free Friday pick,I also have one of the older versions of Nook, but my son presented me with a popular tablet where I have the Nook app on it so I can get some of these colorful books to read with my grandson. I thank everyone for all there selections this week and every week, even if I don't get them all.

Thanks for the freebies! Good timing bc I'm at our dotter s and little Eva loves the apps and kids iBooks.

Have a great summer everyone!  And yes please, whiners knock it off, there is plenty of good books offered here!

by confusedowner on ‎06-28-2013 05:59 PM

I'm grateful for all the freebies over the last several years I've amassed well over 400 free and friday free books. Doesn't matter if its an Adult selection or a Kid selection. People free is free and we should say thankyou.

As for the Ruth Styles Gannett, My fathers Dragon. I have originals from a long time ago when I read it to a son who didnt like reading didnt want to read. He found a friend in these books.

Thanks for sharing the link, I had already purchace in ebook the last two but somehow didnt have the first one in the series. For a whole dollar I got it!

Thank you to all who take their time to go through a copious amount of free non erotica books. For all the years of faithful free fridays it just sounds like a lot of whiners out there  instead of thanks for all that is given type of thing.

Thanks for the books. I love my Nook HD and my Nook original. This week's book is a chapter book and works fine on both. The pictures are black and white.

Thanks as always to all for the chance to pick up a few potentially good sci fi/fantasy reads. I didn't find anything to my liking last week, but a lot of people did and that's fine with me. We're talking FREE after all!

I especially enjoy good sci fi books that have strong, mature protagonists rather than the "coming of age" type. Through Nook Free Fridays, I almost always find something!

Is anyone else tired of people complaining about the people who are complaining?

by Taphat on ‎06-29-2013 12:30 AM

I was so pleased to see some children's books for my daughter;however, most of them were not 'free' by the time I hooked onto the hyperlink (9:30 PM on Friday).  Thanks for trying, but I am pretty disappointed!

by pagemage on ‎06-29-2013 03:58 AM

Thank you to all contributors on this blog.  Week after week I find free books thanks to someone else's efforts.  Too seldom do I leave a thank you note.  Your efforts are appreciated. Thank you for this week's selections and also for all the times I've neglected to leave a message.

Guess, you can't please everyone...

Thank you again for the free book & the other suggestions. My children own nooks & I love finding free books to add to their collection. As, well as on mine for when my little one needs to get on mine.

I don't always like the books that are offered... But, then I can just move on.

And, if you are a loyal nook user or brand spanking new to the nook... I am sure B&N appreciates us all.

I still have the very first nook (Wifi/3g), never giving that up! But, have upgraded several times.
