Today's Free Fridays book selection is The Rockin' Chair by Steven Manchester - a hearty, complex portrait of a family at a pivotal moment between a haunted past and a hopeful future.

Grandpa John McCarthy is in need of some closure, so he calls his estranged grandchildren back home after the death of their grandmother. From his place in a treasured rocking chair passed down from generation to generation of the McCarthy family, Grandpa John shares both his most cherished and painful memories of his offspring and urges them to do the same, for the sake of love, faith and family bonds that should never have been broken. Can the McCarthys move past anger and regret and become stronger than ever? The Rockin' Chair is a beautifully-written novel that will simultaneously break your heart and strengthen it.

Each week, we ask our featured author to recommend a book or author that you may want to check out. Since authors are such passionate readers themselves, we thought you might like to find out what they love to read, too! Here’s what Steven recommends:

I recently read the novel, Blue, and was taken on an amazing ride that I won't soon forget. One of the best novelists in the business today, Lou Aronica makes fantasy and reality collide in this unique story that completely blew me away--all the way to its emotional ending. If you enjoy an imaginative, inspirational story that's filled with hope, adventure and overcoming life's challenges, then give Blue a read. I highly recommend it!

As always happy Friday! Last day of a very busy week this weeks book sounds differnt so I am going to give it a spin also the "extra" $1.99 books one of them is Leaves  by: Michael Baron, who was also a Free Friday author that I have enjoyed and now own several different novels from him ( a bit like Sparks if you are wondering)

On a seperate note in the spring they have the Outlander books are being released as a major made for cable series ( very excitted, and can not wait, from what I understand this book was also featured on free Friday) These books have been my favorite for about 20 years!! If you like the books I share you will love her's (Diane Gabaldon) it is not free but so worth the price and it is on sale now for like $6, read it now before it hits tv, they are predicting that will be as big as Game of Throns (as a die hard reader of the series I am sure hoping it is)

Have a great weekend everybody!! Always be happy and share your happiness with others :smileyhappy:

I had the pleasure to read "The Rockin' Chair" before it was released and it's a wonderful book!  The characters are real and the situations very believable.  It's a heartwarming book and I'm sure everyone will love it!

Thank you once again for the free book selections. I always manage to find a few to download. but unfortunately my poor little Nook, first edition, is completely full. In order to get more books to download I have had to start deleting the books I have archived.:smileysad: Not that I would read them again, but like to browse and look at the authors and go back and buy some of their other books.

by Bxr4me on ‎09-20-2013 09:02 AM

I thought once they were archived they were off your Nook so you could continuously add new books.

Please consider the free fantasy epic Union of Renegades.

In this opening novel of The Rys Chronicles you'll meet a man scarred by bad deeds who answers the call of a heroic cause. An unconventional heroine will tug at your sympathies as she bravely faces adversity with all the strengths and vulnerabilities of her womanhood. And overarching it all are the rys. Their magic makes them superior to humans, but they are not above employing humans in their deadly schemes.
