Today's Free Fridays book selection is The Rockin' Chair by Steven Manchester - a hearty, complex portrait of a family at a pivotal moment between a haunted past and a hopeful future.

Grandpa John McCarthy is in need of some closure, so he calls his estranged grandchildren back home after the death of their grandmother. From his place in a treasured rocking chair passed down from generation to generation of the McCarthy family, Grandpa John shares both his most cherished and painful memories of his offspring and urges them to do the same, for the sake of love, faith and family bonds that should never have been broken. Can the McCarthys move past anger and regret and become stronger than ever? The Rockin' Chair is a beautifully-written novel that will simultaneously break your heart and strengthen it.

Each week, we ask our featured author to recommend a book or author that you may want to check out. Since authors are such passionate readers themselves, we thought you might like to find out what they love to read, too! Here’s what Steven recommends:

I recently read the novel, Blue, and was taken on an amazing ride that I won't soon forget. One of the best novelists in the business today, Lou Aronica makes fantasy and reality collide in this unique story that completely blew me away--all the way to its emotional ending. If you enjoy an imaginative, inspirational story that's filled with hope, adventure and overcoming life's challenges, then give Blue a read. I highly recommend it!

I love Friday! This book loojs so good. And the recommended book " blue" is wonderful. There is also a short prequel called "until again". I recommend reading it first as it helps one to understand the relationship in blue.

Thank you to all who contribute to the Free Friday experience.  The free books are a wonderful ending to a week. These free books expand my library beyond what I could possibly afford, and although I have more books than I can read in this lifetime, I still buy books that I've been introduced to - either sequels to the free books or other works by an author of a free book.  My Nook is my constant companion.  I like the ability to increase the font size and backlighting for comfort.  What an advantage over hard copy books where you have to deal with the font chosen by a publisher, some of whom must have super vision.  I do hope Nook will give us a good, reliable book with a read-outdoors screen soon. Thanks again, B & N and other contributors to the Free Friday offers.

 To lastcwboysbabe:

I have a micro SD card.  Between that and my Nook with glowlight, I have 850 books right now, and I still have PLENTY of space!  I suggest getting a micro SD card!!!

THANKS TO ALL.  I AM TRYING TO READ DIFFERENT GENRES, BUT I MUST ADMIT I OFTEN MAKE MY FINAL DECISION BASED ON THE COVER.  I KNOW YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSE TO JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER BUT I'M STILL GUILTY.

HAVE A SUPER WEEK ALL!

Hello -

Just received a Nook as a birthday present and am just starting to explore all this.  So far, I am loving this!  This is a great community and I am enjoying exploring all the free books and apps that everyone so kindly contributes. I am writing regarding the PrintHand App that was offered as a "FREE" app....I also downloaded it and got the error messages.  I went to the company and found that it is not a FREE app at all.  They will allow you to print one sample page (if you can get the driver to install) and then you have to purchase the app. I am dissappointed in this deception on their part!  So, to all of you who are trying to get it to work, I guess it is not worth our efforts!

I agree if you need more room purchase yourself a micro sd card. I have a nook color and I haven't had any issues with space. I recently purchased myself a Samsung galaxy tablet 2 and I got a sd card for it but it's still empty. I use the nook for android app to read my books and my daughter took over my nook. I decided on not buying a second nook because with my galaxay tab 2 there are a lot more free apps and I was still could read all my books on it.

Thanks for all the free books bn! Have a great weekend.

Thank you =)

my wife tried the micro sd solution. The problem with it is that b&n purchases don't go to the sd card; only purchases made through other comanies do. B&N purchases continue to go to the main nook. The only solution that I can think of is to buy another nook, change your e-mail address, and make all new purchases through that e-mail to the new nook.

Though I "purchased" it Friday, I just downloaded and installed the printer app.  I had no problem.  It recognized my HP5200 series Wi-Fi printer and connected to it easily.  The test print was perfect.  I'm slightly electronically challenged and, as a general rule, if anyone's going to have a problem it will be me.

I would suggest that those who have had problems with it try again.  And I would hope that all those who left one star reviews tried several times to install this app before offering the dismal reviews.  If I can do it in a matter of minutes from my bathroom on my HD+ (many reviewers claimed this was the device that would not support the app) then anyone can do it.  If not, please utilize your B&N Nook support.  They can usually figure it out if we can't.

To Books-love Friday,

I just bought a 32 GB micro sd card for my Nook HD,and was dismayed to find out that any books bought from Barnes and Noble cannot be moved the the sd card. I don't know how you got 850 books on your Nook -how did you manage to save or move anything to your sd card?  I was told by customer support that you could only put pictures or downloaded files on the sd -the only option I see is to buy ebooks from amazon or some other source and download them to the sd.

I loved reading the Rockin Chair.  It was a very rewarding story with a message that all of us can learn from.   Thank you for putting it on the free Friday book list I would have never have found it otherwise.
