Free Fridays

Categories: Free Fridays

In Grace—newly available for NOOK—one of those strong heroines, Grace Ackerly, contends that she’ll never succumb to the social pressures to marry, refusing to become the subservient wife that her era demands. But like any head-strong 20 year old, Grace doesn’t realize that the unpredictability of life sometimes interrupts even the best-laid plans.

In this case, that ‘unpredictability’ has a name and a downright handsome face. Trevor Christian Caldwell is an irresistible charmer who’s set his sights on young Grace, hoping to change her mind about love, marriage, and what a true partnership can really mean.

In today’s Free Fridays selection, a strong-willed woman and a man who is used to getting what he wants are pitted against each other, with passionate and incendiary results.

Free Fridays Recommends

Each week, we ask our featured author to recommend a book or author that you may want to check out. Since authors are such passionate readers themselves, we thought you might like to find out what they love to read, too! Here’s what Deneane Clark recommends:

NOOK owners: go to shop and search for “Deneane Clark” to download her alluring historical romances.

The operative word here is FREE.  Quit complaining.  I would like to see more mysteries, though, but heck when it's free I can read anything.  Thanks B&N, I for one appreciate it.

Love Free Fridays.  Don't understand the complaining.  I'm a vorocious reader and read all genres, so a little romance is fine.  I like a little romance myself.  Free Friday's seem to rotate genres so that they are not repeated each week.  There hasn't been a romance this month, so it was due in the rotation and I'm fine with it. If you don't like it, just don't download it and stop complaining.  Thanks B&N for Free Fridays and the different selections.

Please be nice. B&N is not required to do Free Fridays. I really don't think anyone at B&N is making you download anything against your will. Just pass on it and hope that maybe next Friday the FREE ebook will suit you.

Not much of a romance reader, but thank you all the same Jeremy.

I love love love romances.  SO thank you B&N.

I have to say not every FF offer is not my cup of tea.  However, it is a free offer, and if I don't like it, oh well someone else will.  I encourage other readers to look at the free firday offers not as a way of stocking their library but as  chance to sample authors and generes you wouldn't otherwise try.  I wasn't so excited about the last several FF books, but I didn't post ungrateful messages here either.  If you want a particular author, buy it!!  or try to get it from the library or the lend me feature.  Instead of posting negative messages, try posting positive ones on the offers you are excited about.

Always excited to see what B&N will post for their freebies on Friday. Its the highlight of my Friday workday!!! Even if the read is not my cup of tea sometimes I'm always thankful for the free books!

thanks and this is what I like

Last week wasn't something I liked at all.

by grateful65 on ‎07-29-2011 01:08 PM

I appreciate the FREE price and the variety. It's hard to please every reader every week. I look at it as a chance to try something new and if I don't like it I delete it. I do miss the "classic collections" they offered last year right around when I got my Nook - I got quite a few "lifetime reading list" books for free and enjoy them when I want to give my brain a little more of a work-out!

Love free Fridays. Thanks B&N. Keep the diversity coming :smileyhappy:

If you're going to complain about the selection, at least get your facts straight. Free Fridays is not at all being overrun with romance titles. This is the first romance novel offered on Free Fridays since Life's a Beach, back on June 3rd. That's about 2 months. Prior to that, you have to go back to The Phantom of Pemberley, back on March 25th, about 2 more months.

Over the past two months, June and July, here are the Free Fridays offerings:

June 3 - romantic comedy - Life's a Beach

June 10 - non-fiction - Stupid History

June 17 - paranormal thriller - Dark Legacy

June 17 - non-fiction The Last Boy (Fathers' Day bonus offering)

June 24 - southern fiction Front Porch Prophet

July 1 - literary suspense The Blue Light Project

July 8 - mystery suspense The Hunt

July 15 - crime fiction County Line

July 22 - non-fiction Retirementology

July 29 - historical romance Grace

If there's something you want to see, then say what it is you want. Playing the "that's not the rock I want, bring me another rock" game won't get you where you want to go.

Oh, and here's a graphic from Publishers Weekly illustrating numbers from Bowker (the US ISBN agency). It shows that about 1/7th of e-book unit sales are romance. So once every couple of months doesn't seem at all out of line.

Thanks for the FF Book, but would you please offer better literature?

Thanks!

Thank you, Doug!

And now for my soapbox...  Can we please quit giving bad reviews and ratings to books we haven't read because we don't like the selection?  Seriously?  And, B&N can you at least respond to the multiple reports you receive each week for these.

I know setting a proactive policy takes time, but at least, for the good of your reputation and the author's, when we click "Report" can you take some action?

by Rontar on ‎07-29-2011 03:50 PM

That is one heck of a post Doug_Pardee. I agree with Ya_Ya as well. The only thing that really bugs me is people posting bad reviews that have nothing to do with the content of the book. There are other places to air your grievences people.
