City of Thieves by David Benioff is a book I keep buying and giving to friends. Lev and Kolya – a teenager and a soldier – are sent on a quest to find fresh eggs during the siege of Leningrad. The humor and compassion in this novel elevate a wartime adventure tale into something very special. The theme of basic human decency pulses under the surface on every page. Amazing.

I really appreciate Barnes & Noble's Free Fridays, and special thanks to spec for the extras list.
That being said, I've noticed a dearth of science fiction and fantasy offerings of late. I'm not saying we're entitled or anything -- what we get is what we get, of course, and still appreciative (Indeed, I have used Free Fridays as part of my sales pitch in encouraging friends to buy Nooks 
) -- just that I'd like to see a few. A broader range of offerings appeals to more readers, thus getting more readership and publicity for the authors involved in the promotion.
