Free Fridays

Categories: Free Fridays

Today’s Free Fridays selection, The Murder at the Vicarage, was Christie’s first novel featuring the widowed amateur sleuth, giving Marple a chance to show off her sharp wit and incomparable deductive skills. When a Colonel is found murdered , and Miss Marple starts her snooping, she soon finds that narrowing down a list of suspects is more difficult when the victim is one of the town’s most despised residents.

Fans of Christie’s work (and with over 1 billion books sold worldwide, there are many out there), will love revisiting this treasured classic, as will readers who are just now discovering the magic of this beloved writer.

Free Fridays Recommends

"If Agatha Christie were still alive, she’d probably recommend Bleak House by Charles Dickens, which was one of her favorite novels. The character of Inspector Bucket, who’s considered one of the first detectives in English literature, may have inspired her to create her famous detective Hercule Poirot. She also wrote a screenplay adaptation of Bleak House for MGM, which was never produced."

NOOK owners: go to shop and search for “Agatha Christie” to download her treasured books.

Once again thank you so much for the wonderful Agatha Christie book, something I will read again and again. I hope that you can run a special on some of her other books sometimes, especially the Miss Marple series.

Spec, how do you do it? I added several of your selections to my library. It's very generous of you to take the time to lead us to other treasures. You  must be a very special person!

Okay, I have to confess, I've never read Agatha Christie, but I've seen movies that were made from her books. I feel really guilty, as an avid reader, epecially of mystery books, that I've never read her. What a great way to give me a jump start so that I will. Thanks, B&N. And, Spec, that is truly very kind of you to take the time to post free reads, especially dividing them by genre. You rock!

Every time I post I hope to gather enough laurels to beat the top post on Unbound blog from 2010 which gathered 48 of them. Can it be done? :smileyhappy:

Thanks for the Christie book.  It is nice to go back to some of the mystery classics.  Thanks Spec for all the other suggestions.  I downloaded several of them too.  My nook and this blog have introduced me to some great authors!  I usually end up purchasing many more books after reading the free ones.  Thanks again! (Spec this might count for two laurels :<)

An Agatha Christie book. What a wonderful gift from B & N. Again I thank you for giving us the wonder gift of reading & creating a fictional world to lose ourselves in. Since it is storming outside this is the perfect time to read. Hope all of you have a great & safe holiday weekend. Enjoy.

Spec - Thanks for the suggestions. I downloaded Christie book for both my husband and myself (separate nooks, we don't share well)  But I really have enjoyed the My Heart Remembers by Kim Vogel Sawyer that you listed.  There is one slight spacing issue in the first part (took me a couple passes to realize that I wasn't missing pages.)
