Introducing the All-New NOOK™: The Simple Touch Reader™
As a devoted reader, I’m just as excited as you are for each new NOOK development. So when I finally had a chance to hold our All-New NOOK™ in my hands—available for pre-order now—I immediately thought of all the great ways it would make reading even better.
First, it’s ultra-light and thin—something that will make my daily subway commute easier than ever.
Next the incredible battery life—up to 2 months on a single charge—had me looking ahead to summer weekend trips, with one fewer charger to pack.
And when I saw the crisp, clear E Ink® Pearl Display, combined with an easy-to-use touchscreen, I could immediately tell that the All-New NOOK is, quite frankly, the simple touch reader I’ve been waiting for.
Read our press release to learn more about the All-New NOOK, The Simple Touch Reader.

It's lovely, but like Denise, I'm very concerned that B&N does continue to support the original Nook, especially as the new version does not have 3G.
Will the 3G still work on the Nooks that have that capability?

What will happen to our original NOOKs? Will they still get firmware updates, or get NOOK Friends or any of that stuff that the new NOOK is getting?

As long as there is no 3g it's a 'no go' for me. I just hope my original 3g nook lasts a very very long time so I'm not forced to go elsewhere...

Sadly, the silence with regard to questions about updates/upgrades for the original Nook is very telling. With each day that passes with no response, the little nagging voice in my head grows. And what it's saying is "Perhaps you should have thought harder about a Kindle."
If there are to be no further updates to the original Nook, fine. But at least have the courtesy to come out and say so. Extending the silence does nothing to make me feel good about my original purchase, and it certainly does not entice me to consider buying another Nook product.
I have seen several hundred posts concerning updates to the original Nook and not one response from Barnes & Noble. In case B&N management was absent from that day in Business 101, this does not qualify as customer service, merely corporate indifference.

When I was looking for a e-reader the reason that I choose the Nook was because of the 3G and the ability to listen to music, two features that it seems they left out.
I think in the rush to out do Kindle they have simply made a Kindle that is a touch screen and has e-pub.
This will not be a product that I would buy or recommend to anyone

I am expecting USPS to deliver a 1st gen Nook Wi-Fi + 3G. I really hope BN still supports the 1st gen Nook. I also hope they respond to their loyal customers who helped make this product a success.

Here's the thing about the 3G owners and I'm one of them, the contract with At&t is running out and it looks like it's not going to be renewed, when this happens there won't be 3G service. However, our nooks will still have its wifi working. I am thinking of soon to get this 2nd edition Nook since it really doesn't matter that it doesn't have 3G since 3G is coming to an end someday.
