Most people will point to Post Office, Ham on Rye, or Women as the definitive Bukowski books, but for my money, Hot Water Music is the best of the bunch. Featuring his trademark short stories, these pieces punctuate the underbelly of our society; a geographical fringe where lunatics, drunks, whores, and gamblers make the rules, set the stakes, and fight the good (and bad!) fight.
Bukowski said that, “Genius might be the ability to say a profound thing in a simple way” and his straight-forward fiction undoubtedly attests to his sheer brilliance.
