The new features and additional enhancements are available with the updated NOOK software now available via manual download at www.nook.com/update. If your NOOK is registered and has Wi-Fi® connectivity (Airplane mode should be OFF and Wi-Fi® should be turned ON and connected to a hotspot), the device will automatically download the software and install it on your NOOK within the next week. If connected to Wi-Fi® and you’d like to get the update sooner, you can tap ‘Check for new B&N content’ under My Library. However, if the update does not start automatically, please try again in a couple of hours.

 

The process takes approximately 5-7 minutes via Wi-Fi® or 4-5 minutes for the manual download (depending on your connection). You should NOT turn your NOOK off while the new software is being downloaded. Once the software update is completed, your NOOK will automatically restart and display the Home screen. The software update will preserve your personal settings, including your registered account information, content, display settings, and Wi-Fi® settings.

I'm with bob22.  I upgraded to 1.3 and now none of my books in My B&N Library are able to open.  Checking deeper I see they are in archive mode.  Talked with support 3 times over the past week.  Was originally told it was a server issue but now their finally just going to send me a new Nook.  So now I have to wait even longer before I can read my books again.

 

Other than that I found things are nice.  Speed for turning pages on books I was reading from My Documents was good.  WiFi is nice but I found going to websites that are make for mobile connections are best.  And as for games, they're OK but I'm hoping for more.

I had no problem downloading the new update. It installed in about 10 minutes and every feature, old and new, is working as advertised. I have had no issues open B&N content. In fact this latest update fixed a problem I had with sideloading PDF documents other eBooks to My Content folder. Now I can read these PDFs and eBooks. The touch screen is very responsive, almost as good as my iTouch. Great upgrade B&N. Keep the enhancements coming and exploit the full capabilities of the android OS.

Love the new updates (of course, I am a new user).  Would love it even more if they came up with a sort of Wordpad type application so I can make notes and save them to my expansion card to move onto my computer later.

I was able to update to the new software with very few issues. I don't really have a need for the browser or games, I have an Iphone, laptop, netbook, desktop for that. But, for those who don't I guess it is a great feature.

 

I am hoping in the next feature you will be able to navigate to different pages, without all of the arrowing back and forth. If that feature is on the Nook, I haven't figured out how to use it successfully.

 

Otherwise, the device is great, for what it is meant to do, read books. I've looked at the Ipad, mainly because I love gadgets, but I do still love my Nook ereader.

I hope the nook software development team sees this post... 

 

First of all, I installed the software update the day it was released.  Even though I most likely will never play the games, all-in-all the update made me love my Nook even more.  Great job!!!

 

The fact that a web browser has been added is outstanding!  I hope the next version release allows the user to landscape the display when browsing the web for a wider field of view.

 

Password protection for the device itself should be an option.  I really don't think I will ever  leave my Nook unattended, but you never know,  there are hacks published on the web, with complete "for dummies" instruction for the system microSD card whereas any one with the right tools (free/cheap) and can read, can hack a stolen Nook and steal personal information from and about the registered owner.  Not to sound paranoid, but this is of course a reality in our IT age. I hope this has already been considered. 

 

Anyway, keep up the good work.  I LOVE MY NOOK!

I have had no complaints about my nook since the day I purchased it.  It has functioned perfectly since day one, and I really like the latest 1.3 update.  A lot of people have complained about the games...why?  For many people it is a great addition.  Don't play if you don't want to.

 

I enjoy seeing people make recomendations about potential improvements; it could benefit us all.  However, there is no reason to complain about a feature your not interested in.  You aren't required to use that feature.

I have noticed that my Nook's battery does not last nearly as long as they say it is supposed to. When I am reading a book, it seems to last about 2-3 good days before I have to re-charge it. I am not seeing the 1-2 weeks of battery life.

I have a Nook on trial, comparing it to the Kindle. I like some of the features of the Nook but so far, the Kindle seems easier to use as an eReader. Some of the other things on the Nook aren't that important to me.

 

I like the idea of having a WiFi capability, but I'm not sure what I'd do with it. I was told the basic browser was added simply as a way to enable people to enter passwords to link up to non-BN WiFi. I received a software update last week and I think it came down over 3G, but I might have linked to my WiFi at home.

 

My main complaint with the Nook is the sensitivity of the touch screen. For me, it is very easy to touch inadvertently while reading or doing something else. Bang, you're off somewhere else. Frankly I wish there was a way to put it to sleep once I reach what I'm trying to do, or at least limit it to options within that single area. Is it just me, or is anyone else having these problems?

 

The other thing is that because it has a touch screen menu, I am constantly finding myself trying to do something by touching the main screen. Maybe the combination of having a touchscreen phone and the touchscreeen approach to navigation on the Nook just keeps fooling my brain. I don't try that on the Kindle because touch navigation and Kindle are not two things I link in my brain.

 

Anyone offer further thoughts on the Kindle versus Nook question?

I am an avid reader. I am always in the process of starting a new book or finishing one. I even reread books from my favorite authors. I am retired but currently work part-time at Target. As you may know, Target has recently started selling the Kindle eBook reader. After finally seeing one, I have reinforced my desire to own the nook. I have b...nook ebook reader. The recent price reductions cemented my desire and I am ready to pull the trigger...
