Thanks BN for the update, well worth the wait.

Congrats to all the NC owners, but how about us loyal, original BW owners? Are we stuck on 1.5 for the rest of time? It's fine if we are, since a book is a book, and the Nook screen is the best reading platform there is. But, really, there is always room for improvement.

Once Nookstudy is available on a portable device I will buy it but until then I will stick with my original Nook which works perfectly fine to read a regular book.

Great to see an update. How long does the update take once downloaded and my Nook Color goes to sleep?

Thanks for the update. I just downloaded it and everything went smoothly. I second the Nook Study being accessible on our Nook Color. That would make life so much easier!

Less than 20 seconds.

Have to agree with Jeffell.  Have an original Nook BW and would love to see just a few updates to it (a Notes app and a Calendar app top my list).  Otherwise, it's perfect as it is to me as an e-reader.  But would love just a bit of increased functionality.

Very cool! I could not wait for the random update, so I did it manually. No problem! I downloaded 5 or 6 new apps, including the free calendar, notes and task apps, and they work great! For fun, I downloaded Angry Birds, too. So excited! The best part is that it will now play Flash video, which is a HUGE deal. Way to go!

I'm loving the 1.2 update! I sideloaded it this afternoon, with absolutely no problem. I do wish that the text to speech function (present on the Amazon Kindle) could be implemented on the Nook Color. I know there are possible copyright issues, but I would really like to take a break occasionally, and have my Nook Color read to me.

Where are the free apps? There's only 5 or 6 of them!!!

by manderbear on ‎04-26-2011 04:08 AM

I downloaded the update with no problem, but it wont let me download any apps, which is the only reason I bothered to sideload in the first place. It keeps giving me the error, Unable to purchase : problem with purchase of this item please try again later. its a free app. is this my accounts fault (which it should not be) or is the app store down at 3am central? help?

I think the way the update was communicated was a little clunky. I get prompted to download a PDF that has a URL to download a .Zip file?

Just a taaaaad bit convoluted.

The PDF was from some PR firm, and wasn't really written from a consumer standpoint.

Since this OS is Android-based, you should have pushed a silent update.

Playing with the update now.

I love my Nook Color, and I am very happy to see that B&N has come out with this badly needed update.

If I could submit a wish list, I would ask that they continue to tweak the OS, as there is still easily room for further improvement. I'm a glutton for functionality, I need control over the environment I'm working with. I need to be able to customize, and I want greater access to applications widely available to those folks who've chosen to Root their Nook Colors.

I understood that B&N wanted to be a bit protective over what can be purchased via the Android Market, but honestly I think it's counter productive. I like this unit, I like the services provided by B&N, I want to keep them - but I want access to all those other applications out there that I know will work very well on this device.
