So has Barnes and Noble pretty much abandoned the regular nook?  No respect. Doesn't even appear in the commercials.

Makes me wonder if it is going to be an abandoned product in favor of the more flashy and lower battery life color.

I'm not a Nook Color user, but I love this ad. It celebrates reading (notice the paper books in the piece). Whatever the delivery method, reading is the focus. The ad places Nook Color as a one means to read.

I agree, what has happend to the regular Nook, I love mine.  I really do not want to see the regular Nook be put on the shelf, it's a great e-reader if you are not into the color format.

I am a Nook Classic devotee, but I LOVE this commercial. What a wonderful celebration of reading! The first time I saw this on tv, I was not even sure what the commercial was for until the very end.

Love the commercial. I must agree, it is a true attribute of the joys of reading regardless of the means. Love my Nook original! The E-Ink can not be beat.

1) Great commercial.

2) I agree, why is there no love for the Nook Classic? I feel like B&N is acting like it is obsolete, but it is really just serving a different audience than the Nook Color.

3) I've tried a few times to enter on the Facebook page, but each time I receive an error.

My husband got me my NOOKCOLOR for our 39th Anniversary. I was hesitant at first to embrace this technology, but much like the famous quote, I look forward to the end of the day to sit quietly reading my Nook. Reading like this still has the heartfelt quality of curling up with a good book.

Excellent commercial.  I have the original Nook and very happy with it; even though it had to be replaced twice with reconditioned ones.  They don't send you a brand new one.  I understand promoting the newer color version; however what about the B&W Nook?  Is it just going to be forgotten about?  I think some support to those who took the chance on a new thing when it came out, should receive some kind of update or chance to upgrade to a new color version if desired.  I will still continue to use my Nook; I love the convenience it provides.

I agree with the posts about the classic Nook - it would be a big mistake to abandon it.  I bought mine recently primarily because the color screen is tiring to my eyes.  I have a new iPad, and while it has its conveniences, it would never work for me as a reader since I like spend several hours at a time reading.  Given the fact that Amazon just announced that library books would soon be available on the Kindle, this would be the worst possible time to ignore the classic Nook.  B & N should support and promote both.  Improve the software and battery time and make something that is already excellent beyond compare.

Nicely done. I have a Nook Color and enjoy it, but I still prefer a traditional book, so I was glad to see them featured in the ad, also. However, I didn't really see this as a Nook ad. Instead, it feels more like a public service announcement to encourage reading in any form.

So poetic and really lovely to see people relaxed and enjoying a good read in so many different places!  I loved that it featured people of all ages, too.  As a teacher I think it's so important to encourage the love of reading to children and teens.

The ad brought me close to tears, then thinking of some of the scenes of my life to add to commercial v.2 brought me all the way to sniffly sobs. I'm a sentimental sap, that's all. As a B&W Nook owner, I really don't feel like that song title, I've had my hours and hours, through one replacement and close to another, of vicarious thrills.


As for my ideas for v.2, I started with my own childhood memories but decided that being grounded from reading would need dialog to explain what was happening and why the child in the commercial was so upset. My mom did it because she believed it was the only thing I cared about enough to get through to me. She probably was right.


Flipping through my early life and the few books that brought me to tears. In public. In study hall. Seventh grade and Gone With the Wind and Rhett not coming back ever. Again, problematic with no dialog. And I do think the no dialog was part of the strength of commercial v.1.


Or one of my bridesmaids, asking me if I really thought I'd need That Many books on my honeymoon. Well, half of them were picked out with my almost husband in mind, they weren't ALL mine, although all of them were picked out thinking both of us would read them. (And we did.)


The scene I'll stand behind, though, is when I was an adult with an eight-year-old. One night when I was on the way to bed, way too late because I had to finish the book I was reading, and glancing into my daughter's bedroom and seeing a big and glowing from within lump in the middle of her bed. I went and woke up my husband and made him get out of bed to see it, too. He looked at the lit lump, then looked at me, then gulped. Pulled me back into our bedroom and quietly shut the door, then whispered with bug-eyes, "Do you think our parents knew, too?"


Commercial v.2 doesn't need the ending whisper, I just bet there are so many parents who could play out the whole thing just by showing the lit lump. That may be universal. Just like most of the scenes in this first commercial, I felt a part of each one of them. It's a commercial that touched my heart and my reading soul.

I come from a family of readers. I've always carried books and magazines with me (lots when I travel). Many times my books and magazines were almost half of my suitcase weight. Now with my NookColor I carry them all with me in my hand!! Now I can "Read Forever" without Taking a lot of weight around with me and at the same time I can save a lot of trees!!
