nook_front-view_200.jpgThere’s a lot of news this week, so we’re going to dive right in.

nook Demo Units Arrive: First, we’re happy to report that nook demo units are in (or arriving in) all Barnes & Noble stores, and will be available for customer viewing beginning today. Use the nook store locator to get information about the stores near you. Please, no pushing!

First Shipments: The first customers to pre-order nook are already receiving shipping confirmations and should expect delivery within the next day or two. More will go out through the week, so we expect to see many more happy nook owners in the days ahead.

Also, we expect to have more information for people with Dec. 7 ship dates later today.

Customers with an original expected ship date of Dec. 7 are getting an email tonight indicating that their nooks will arrive by Dec. 16. We appreciate your patience as we fulfill orders in the order in which they were received.

eNewspapers and eMagazines: Some of our initial ePeriodicals have started appearing on the site. What you’re seeing today is just the beginning. Many more titles are coming in the days and weeks ahead, with prominent additions expected this week.

More on the Way: Some features are still making their way through the release process. Others (like browsing complete eBooks in Barnes & Noble stores before you buy them) are coming after the new year. We’re expecting to have in-store inventory available for purchase after the new year as well; we’ll provide details as we have them.

We’re excited for customers to see a demo of nook in our stores and for the first customers to experience eReading on nook. Please remember that nooks ordered today (here or through your local Barnes & Noble store) are expected to ship Jan. 15. If your nook’s a gift, there’s still time to get the special Holiday Certificate that you can wrap as a place-holder.

Thanks, everyone. And happy eReading!

That means they will ship on the 14th .   It will be interesting to see if us 7th day people get next day air and a $10 token,

To Radarman123 and all others with a 12/7 shipdate: I just received my email that my nook is on its way - but not until 12/16. I've been upgraded to overnight shipping, but there's no $10 coupon. Grrrrrr.

by Radarman123 on 12-07-2009 07:27 PM

Well here is the email --

"This is to confirm that your nook will be shipping this week. Although your shipment has been slightly delayed, we've upgraded you to overnight shipping to ensure you'll receive your nook by December 16.

Thank you for being among the first customers to order nook. Our aspiration is that you'll find it a great way to read, and we look forward to getting your feedback on the overall experience to continue to make it better for you"

I just got the same e-mail. I ordered mine on 10/31 and had the 12/7 ship date. No coupon either!

by patrickp on 12-07-2009 07:32 PM

If it's being shipped this week, but not arriving until the 16th....Isn't that standard delivery?

by ElAleph on 12-07-2009 07:34 PM

What about people with Dec. 11th ship date.

by lynxx on 12-07-2009 07:38 PM

So some how just now B&N realized they couldn't make the Dec 7th ship date?  On Friday, when mine is suppose to ship, will you also just realize you can't make that date?  I mean it is obvious you can't so why wait till the night they ship to let people know?  I wonder how many people in the media got one today to review? I know several gadget review sites that I visit have one today and did a review, so why do they get one before us who have paid for them?  What about the stores that got two units,, do they really need two?

by teacherterri on 12-07-2009 07:38 PM

I guess you'll be getting an e-mail as well.

Did most people get the extended warranty?

by icebike on 12-07-2009 07:41 PM

I did get the extended warranty.  Version 1.0 of anything is risky enough.

very true!

by Tinroof on 12-07-2009 08:08 PM
well, I have some good news!...............
by icebike on 12-07-2009 08:09 PM

Just moments ago I got a shipment tracking Number on the order that went in on Oct 20 at 4:20pm.

Maybe that will help others judge when theirs will arrive.

All it says is billing info received, which means UPS probably will not pick it up till Crack-O-Dawn tomorrow (8th) and it will arrive on the 9th.

If it helps anyone, I just got my shipping confirmation a minute ago and I had placed my order at 2:41 EST on October 20th.

by Latwanda on 12-07-2009 08:33 PM

Darn it, the nook received a mediocre review on Gizmodo and a poor review on Engadget today (nice that they received nooks earlier than paying customers).  For $260 I want something better than "fair".  I will probably cancel my order and wait for the 2nd generation coming in the Summer (with improved touch screen and backlighting for night reading).

The good news is my cancellation will free one up for someone else this Christmas!!

by Tinroof on 12-07-2009 08:41 PM

The good news is I'm getting everything but the accessories that I ordered at the same time..........the email doesn't even address those............I have no idea when they will arrive? Here is the email that I received........
