nook_front-view_200.jpgThere’s a lot of news this week, so we’re going to dive right in.

nook Demo Units Arrive: First, we’re happy to report that nook demo units are in (or arriving in) all Barnes & Noble stores, and will be available for customer viewing beginning today. Use the nook store locator to get information about the stores near you. Please, no pushing!

First Shipments: The first customers to pre-order nook are already receiving shipping confirmations and should expect delivery within the next day or two. More will go out through the week, so we expect to see many more happy nook owners in the days ahead.

Also, we expect to have more information for people with Dec. 7 ship dates later today.

Customers with an original expected ship date of Dec. 7 are getting an email tonight indicating that their nooks will arrive by Dec. 16. We appreciate your patience as we fulfill orders in the order in which they were received.

eNewspapers and eMagazines: Some of our initial ePeriodicals have started appearing on the site. What you’re seeing today is just the beginning. Many more titles are coming in the days and weeks ahead, with prominent additions expected this week.

More on the Way: Some features are still making their way through the release process. Others (like browsing complete eBooks in Barnes & Noble stores before you buy them) are coming after the new year. We’re expecting to have in-store inventory available for purchase after the new year as well; we’ll provide details as we have them.

We’re excited for customers to see a demo of nook in our stores and for the first customers to experience eReading on nook. Please remember that nooks ordered today (here or through your local Barnes & Noble store) are expected to ship Jan. 15. If your nook’s a gift, there’s still time to get the special Holiday Certificate that you can wrap as a place-holder.

Thanks, everyone. And happy eReading!

GOT MY NOOK!  I love this and it was so worth the wait.  The touch screen is wonderful.  So far everything is working as it should.  Had it up and running, registered in no time at all.  Haven't shopped yet or anything, but so far its a totall thumbs up.  Love it, love it.

ok, I couldn't wait.  I connected and purchased a book in about a minute!  It worked perfectly.  BTW, the nook came with the software update already installed, which was nice.  Its really working well and easy to use.  Its a great product and I could not be happier!

"So is that the closest you get to an apology?

Go back and read your rant.  In spite of what every body had already posted about ship dates, legally required "still want" dates, and email notifications you jumped right in and hurled that steaming pile onto these boards, insulting everyone who ever worked for B&N, drove a UPS truck, or soldered a circuit board.  Then you come back with that lame excuse for an apology?

I hope your mother is still around.  Her job is not yet finished."

I'm not sure I know quite what you are talking about.  I merely posted exactly what was said on the phone.  I had been in contact with CS many times, it was the first phone call that they were not helpful with.  I'm happy I got my Nook, no doubt about it, no hidden agenda there.  However, when a CS rep can't tell you anything about your order, as a consumer that is not acceptable.  Don't advertise ship dates and then not bother to inform the consumer in an acceptable time frame of changes.  It doesn't work like that.  If you disagree with that, that is your choice.  I would only encourage you to read the WSJ and take note of the lashings that the writers have handed out to the likes of B&N and other companies (in the past) for this very issue.

I never said anything about UPS drivers, so your tinfoil hat might be on a wee bit too tight on this go around.  Even B&N admits that they have screwed this one up.  Don't advertise "pre-order" dates, deals for early orders, ship dates, etc... when the reality tells you that you aren't prepared to fulfill the desire of the consumer from a delivery standpoint.

So, no, I will not apologize for B&N's horrid consumer relations on this product launch.  I will not apologize for the clear lack of communication within the departments and their inability to notify paying customers in an appropriate amount of time.  My advice for you is this:  Though you are welcome to your own opinion and can draw from my comments whatever you may, I would encourage you to be aware that you don't know the whole story between me and B&N on this.  You don't know all the facts and can merely speculate on your own.  Hopefully your mother taught you what happens when you assume.

Enjoy your nook... but loosen that tinfoil.

I received my nook yesterday and I love it!  (of course, this is my first ereader so I've nothing to compare it to).  I've had no problems yet (knock on wood) but so far it has been very easy to use.

Called  this morning and they said it was shipped out yesterday and they gave me my tracking number!!!  Just tracked it on the UPS sight and still hasn't left!

it is for overnight shipping.  This is agony!

by MiniMischief on 12-23-2009 06:54 PM

Dorset- My UPS info has said billing information received since 9pm last night PST so I'm guessing (and only guessing) that is just hasn't updated yet.  I think someone else said the same thing on the last page.  I know how you feel, but I am choosing to believe that it is just not updated yet.  It says overnight shipping so I am pretty sure I will get it tomorrow morning.

The really bad thing is that my kids and hubby announced at lunch that I am not allowed to open it until Christmas.  Now THAT is agony!  ;-)

Yeah!! Just heard that Santa is loading his sled and my Nook is definitely on board!!

Rudolph lead the way!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes Rudolph you found your way!   Thanks Santa!

I got my nook on Thursday at noon and charged it until about 5:30 that night when we left for a Christmas Eve family get together.  I have been using it since then and haven't had to charge it yet!  I love my nook!  Having a little patience paid off!  Thanks Barnes and Noble for a great ereader!  Now not only does my iphone go with me everywhere, but so does my nook!

Is anyone else having problems with it loosing your bookmarks and keeping your last page read?   Other than this I really love my Nook

by Sandy_Howell on 12-29-2009 10:48 AM

nookreaderTB,

The only time I have trouble with the nook returning to the page I was on is if someone picks up the nook and goes into a different book in my library --- then when I hit "reading now" it goes back to the last book used---and if someone has opened a different book then that's where it goes to.  I've not had any trouble with it actually losing bookmarks that I have placed.

by MiniMischief on 12-29-2009 07:09 PM

Got mine on Christmas Eve and love, love, love, love it!

I seem to have a few bookmark issues, but nothing too terrible.  There is a whole thread on it on the Help forum.

It was so worth the wait.

ok so its not primarily intended as an M3 player, I am well aware of that. (How long have you guys worked for B & N?)  But that is one of its selling points. Also note that it says that you can add memory and even calls out an imaginary slot to put in a mini s.d. card??? why should I have to do further research on line to find information that should be packaged simple and clearly with the product?   When someone offers plastic or paper..I'll take the paper.  Today I returned the Nook to the local B & N and was charged a restocking charge, because I had opened it. It was all there but because I told them that I had opened they charged a $25.90 fee.  Some P.R.

Well, have a problem with the Nook.  I went to pick up my reading where I left off on the Nook,  Turned it on and it said that it was updating and not to touch the Nook.  I waited and then it said to register my Nook.  I lost my books!.  I called CS and after waiting for 30 minutes on the phone someone came on and said to unregister and then register again.  My books came back but all the way on the last book.  I tried to unregister again and re-register but nothing happened, except that I now have 2 lines burned into the screen.  I brought my Nook to the B&N store.  They didn't know what to do so they called CS for me.  We were on hold for 1 hour!!!!!! The guy told me again to register and I did and I finally got the books back but still the 2 lines! So they are sending me a new one.  What a pain!!  B&N people were really nice but one hour on waiting on the phone is ridiculous.

After waiting 7 weeks for the Nook in the first place and then waiting for an hour and having to send it back is very frustrating.  B & N get it together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way I knew more about the Nook than the CS people in the store.  Someone train them!!!!!!!!!!
