It's Tuesday, and in the world of books--both digital and print--that means new release day! Three of today's most exciting new eBooks are follow-ups to existing stories: One real-life account of a committed humanitarian, and two edge-of-your-seat tales of pure fantasy.

1.) Stones into Schools: Promoting Peace with Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan is the followup to the bestselling Three Cups of Tea, the amazing true story of Greg Mortensen, an American mountaineer and military veteran-turned-humanitarian who made good on his impulsive vow to build schools for children in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Stones Into Schools delves even further into the determined efforts of Mortensen and his colleagues in the NGO Central Asia Institute, as they overcome Taliban violence, the Kashmir earthquake of 2005, and injunctions against the education of young girls to fulfill their mission.

Parents, share the heartening tale with the children in your life with Three Cups of Tea: Young Reader's Edition, available in paperback and eBook formats.

2.) Find out why Sherrilyn Kenyon is the master of urban fantasy by downloading Born of Ice, the third book in the League Series.

In the futuristic Ichidian universe, the law is the hands of a government of assassins known as the League. But the rebellious Devyn Kell managed to escape the League and become a Runner—someone who makes sure planets get the weapons, medicine and supplies they need. His cohort, Alix Garran, is on the run from a past she can't escape. And now that Devyn's enemies are hot on his trail, the two must put up a united front and fight for justice—and survival.

New to the League series? Start with Born of Night (League Series #1) and Born of Fire (League Series #2).

3.) The Paris Vendetta is the fifth book in Steve Berry's Cotton Malone series—a powerful blend of historical fiction, mystery, and thriller. The series revolves around former Justice Department operative Cotton Malone. In The Paris Vendetta, Malone finds himself wrapped up in an intricate scheme involving his good friend, the Danish billionaire Henrik Thorvaldsen, a British aristocrat, a group of terrorists, a team of financial experts up to no good, and a legendary cache hidden by Napoleon Bonaparte.

The ultimate plot? To avenge the murder of Thorvaldsen's son by the aristocrat at the heart of the conspiracy.

So, what are you reading this week?

I just started Michael Lang's Road to Woodstock this morning. Who knew that Frank Zappa retrieved a Hendrix guitar -- that he had lit a fire and smashed! -- from a Florida concert? Zappa had the Strat fixed and played it for years!

If you wanted it that bad, you would have pre-ordered like the rest of us.

=======================================================================================

I did pre-order.  I'm one of the ones who got a Dec 11 ship date.  With the Nov 30th ship dates being pushed to Dec 7th it follows that mine will probably not even ship til the 18th now.  Guess what?  I'll be on the road to relatives on that date and my office (where I'm having it shipped) will be closed for the holidays.  Those who have called and attempted to have their shipping address changed have been told that there is no way to change the shipping address.

As for your statement "I can't wait for mine!", well guess again....you're waiting just the same as the rest of us poor dumb schmucks who pre-ordered.

I wan't B&N to quit playing games and tell us all straight when our real shipping date is (if it's ever).

I just received notification that my Nook will be delivered on December 9.  This is a leap of faith for me, since I'm Ms. Anti-Technology. I can't imagine trading the smell of a book; the feel of its cover and pages; and the comfort I feel with it in my hands for a piece of metal.  Hopefully, the leap is not for naught because it was one, very expensive leap.

I love Steve Berry and Cotton Malone! I always buy his books in hardback on the day they are released. I pre-orded a nook also and would have loved to have purchased The Paris Vendetta as an eBook. But there are more eBooks that I just have to have when my nook arrives.  Opening The Paris Vendetta -- page 1 ...

I am reading "The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind" on my laptop. it is a memoir by a young man in Malawi who is determined to experience science over superstition and magic. The book deals with obstacles and triumph and is inspirational in its clarity of purpose. A wonderful story to read while I am waiting for nook.

As a longtime member of Barnes & Noble book groups (I started while it was still Barnes & Noble University) I would like to give my thanks to the Admins, the moderators, the readers, and everybody else who is part of this great program. My life has been enriched by all of you over the years. And I really feel that those who want to complain about not receiving nook on Nov 30 should keep their frustrations on the ebook help board. This blog is about ereading and ebooks. It is about experiencing the future now. It is about reading in general, about being hooked on books for life, no matter what technology brings. Whether I read a smudged paperback on a deserted island or an ebook by the cool light of my monitor, whether I collect first editions or romp through second hand shelves at a recycle store, whether I read science fiction or memoirs, I know I can always rely on books to take me to a new shore or revisit an old neighborhood. I am happy to be a reader and though I am also eagerly waiting for nook to arrive - delivery on it has been pushed to a new date for me too - I am disappointed that for many on the ebook help board the wait has turned into a bashing contest. I guess I'll have to download Greg Mortenson's new book "Stones into Schools" to remind me why I read and why I am looking forward to my nook.

Are there really no language books or translation dictionaries available for Nook?  These seem key for travel and one of the advantages of an eBook - not having to drag all those books with you when you travel to foreign countries.

I ordered my nook on 11/15 and was given a "ship-by" date of 12/18. On 12/18 I received a nice email from B&N, confirming my nook was about to ship and although the shipment had been delayed, they would send it overnight to ensure I receive it by 12/24. I am thankful so many of you were impatient and canceled your orders, which ensured my before-Christmas delivery. :smileyhappy:    Seriously, though, I was told up front when I bought it that there would be a wait, so I was not upset about the delay. And if it ends up being all I expect and want, then what is a few weeks of waiting? My son has a Kindle and loves it, but I prefer the look of the nook with its color panel at the bottom and virtual keyboard. I already stopped by the local B&N to purchase a cover for the nook. As someone who visits many countries in the world, I am looking forward to having the nook replace the many books I take to read while I travel. It will allow more room for souvenirs!

My husband ordered my Nook for Christmas..........in Nov.....arrived at 5pm on the 24th.  Opened on the 25th and now have been trying to download an ebook for over 24 hours. I contacted B&N this morning and was on the phone for over an hour.....still no luck.........What a disappointment.....I love books and was very hesitant to "go electronic"....guess I will be forced to visit the store tomorrow and will probably end up returning my nook. It's a shame that B&N was unable to foresee the load on their systems with so many nooks being shipped out late......And it would be great if B&N offered something (like one free ebook) to make up for the delays and hassle......

My wife ordered my nook for my Christmas present back in Nov - with a ship date of 12/18.  This was not at all surprising given the new-ness of this product and the market for it (we are at the top of the ereader hype folks).  On the 18th I received a note it would be delayed but a promise to ship overnight in order to receive prior to Christmas day (greatly appreciated communication B&N).  My wife received it at the door on 12/24 11am and let out a gleeful shout - thus ending my "surprise" :smileyhappy:   Needless to say, I am very happily perusing the nook and have had no issues w/ downloads, etc...  I did have a few issues with understanding where the memory slot was and other product related issues and then realized (of course!) that the manual was in the nook itself (nice).  Welcome to the electronic age indeed - and in a good way.

I do understand some of the frustration of attempting to download on the first day received and work out the kinks of your new toy - but, seriously, think about the first release of any other great product requiring data access their first day, e.g. iPhone, and this pales in comparison.  Still, I do like the idea of a free bestseller ebook for us patient early-adopters...  B&N???  :smileywink:
