NOOK.JPGIn our biggest update since we launched NOOK a year ago, we will dramatically increase NOOK 3G and NOOK Wi-Fi‘s page turn speed and deliver the features and performance enhancements most-requested from all of you!

The 1.5 update includes improved search on the device, customized B&N Library organization and password protection. It also includes the ability to sync across all NOOK and all devices enabled with our free NOOK apps, by syncing your last page read. If you forget your NOOK at home, use the NOOK app for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Android smartphone or PC to pick up where you left off. And, the next time you pick up your NOOK, the Reading Now page will be updated and ready to go.

The NOOK 1.5 software update is expected to be available late next month via Wi-Fi or manual download at

In other NOOK news, NOOK for Android will also be getting an updated -- expected later this week. NOOK for Android v2.3 includes many customer-requested features including the ability to “Go To” a specific page number, search within a book, view highlights and notes, delete books from the library, plus an updated home screen and enhancements to make reading and managing side-loaded content easier. Learn more about NOOK for Android at and download the app from an Android device by searching “NOOK” in the Android Marketplace.

As far as I know you do not have to turn your 3G "off" perse. If you are in a dead zone and your wifi is enabled, your nook should immediately recognize the wifi. Note that for some home systems you to have to manually input the wifi router information via the "other hotspots" button unter your wifi tab.

Very excited about the update though! I'm assuming there's going to be alot more included in the update that we were told by the announcement?

Any new games!

I hope it will allow Blackberry syncing, but thanx anyway and many more improvements to come.

I have to say that I am in conflict with everybody's enthusiasm. When I got this announcement I thought that there was actually an update out! Being told that it more than a month away is like predicting the weather. Why not tell us which week or give us a specific date? Why? Because nobody really knows when it is going to be ready. Also, a lot can change in 4 or 5 weeks. Don't get me wrong. I am looking forward to it, but being given these primers to keep our excitement going is a little childish IMHO. I just want to hear a specific date, instead of vague timelines. I would rather any announcements wait until the week before when they are sure about the release. The improvements do sound impressive however, but page turn speed is what I am looking at the most.

So, the new OS version announcement sort-of coinciding with a B&N event next week:;1n

Maybe a new nook coming up?

Awesome! Keep EVERYONE updated as to the status of 1.5! ^_^

People aren't impressed by the faster page turning described in the update, but if you have ever turned a page on a Kindle 3 (which is just about instant), you'll be chomping at the bit for the faster page turns.   Smart of BN to try to compete with Amazon like that.

Now if only BN could come up with a longer lasting battery...........

Can't wait for the update but I am curious if the library organization is just for B&N Library or if it's for both B&N Library and My Documents - would like it better if they just COMBINED B&N Library and My Documents so that all my books would be in the same place - like another person said - I've never shelved my books before by where they are bought so it seems a little silly to have two separate places to look for books on the Nook.

Faster Page Turns WOO HOO!!!!  Can't wait for that!!!

I'm still hoping for a delete function on the nook. Yes, I can archive books and "hide" them if I want. But, sometimes I download a sample or a freebie that I decide I don't want. Then, it's on my nook until I go to my PC and delete it from my library.

I have to give kudos to B&N, though, for continuing to make the device better via the firmware. It's so frustating when companies require you to buy a new piece of hardware if you want an updated version. It makes the nook a good investment.

So, the nook for Android update hit the Android market today. I just updated it. Page turns are much faster. Haven't tried much else yet.

I would REALLY like to see an alarm clock app. My NOOK always sits on my nightstand...

by token787 on ‎10-22-2010 04:21 PM

My Blackberry is now syncing with the Nook.

So, will the 1.5 update give the original Nook Pandora as well?

by EEis4Me on ‎10-27-2010 04:00 PM

The new Nookcolor can read Microsoft documents, will the v1.5 update have that capability for our nook as well?  Anyone know?

by ladymis on ‎10-31-2010 05:27 AM

I was wondering the same thing, tangelogee.  I love Pandora on my iPhone, and having it on my Nook would save me from having to load all of my music onto it.
