There are other options. You could purchase a Kindle. Of course, you would still not get a color e-ink display, or a backlight.

You could get an iPad. Of course, if you wanted to be able to purchase books wherever you are, you'd need to pay twice as much and then $30 a month on top of that.

That being said, I think if you do wind up waiting, you'll start to see more features added not just to the Nook, but to eReaders in general.

The Nook at my local Barnes & Noble is not accessible. It is too high for me to reach from my wheelchair, and even when the salesperson handed it to me, the security cord it was attached to kept pulling it out of my hands. He didn't know how to operate it and suggested I go online to the B & N website, because "... it has a lot of information." I made a request at the customer service desk that they make the Nook display accessible, and the woman there just shrugged her shoulders and said that it was there and that was that, and I should just understand. She couldn't answer any of my questions either.

@Reine-Marie. Maybe we can answer your questions. We have a ton of knowledgeable nook users here.

I have had my nook for about a month and love it overall, esp. the ability to add PDFs. What is most frustrating is the unavailabilty of ebooks I want to download. Camus' The Plague and The Stranger, Patrick Obrian"s Master and Commander series, two new books coming out next month- The Man Who Ate His Boots- about arctic exploration and Bryan Fagan's book on Cro- Magnon man. I emailed Mr Fagan and he wrote back saying it was in the hands of the publisher. There are two books onprehistory that cam eout last year that are available on the kindle but not for the nook! - what gives! I dont want to read trashy vampire romance novels- WHERE IS THE MEAT!

I recieved my Nook the first week of February..It has froze on me 4 times.  I went to Barnes and Noble to show them.  He had one customer service person look at it, then he got another customer service person to look at it. hit the on/off button like I have been doing.  Then he finally got it to turn off.  Then he turned it back on a said weird. I don't know why it would do that.  I had told him this is the 4th time this has happened where it was freezing up.  He said did you buy the extended warranty. I said I don't think my husband bought extended, I think he just has what came with it the one year.  I said either way it is still covered and I haven't even had it a full month. I said what can you do to fix this.  Do you need to send it back.  He said well it is working right now. Let's keep messing with it to see if it happens again. So again it did freeze it would not turn to the next page.  So he started pressing different buttons and got it to go again. All he said was well there is a 800 number you can call.  If it happens again. I said so I doesn't matter that you seen it freeze up and then it did it again you still want me to call a 8010 number and see how they can help me.  I said damn you spend alot of money on something and you don't get the help or exchange you need. Thanks alot. Where I stand now is if it freezes again to call the 800 number. Thanks alot Barnes and Noble for all your unworthy help!!!!

@ renesme21:  If you're experiencing freezing issues, you should definitely give it a reboot.  There's two methods you can use to go about rebooting your nook.

First, try holding the power down for 10-15 seconds, and then pressing the power button again.  If that doesn't reboot your Nook, try:

1.  Unplugging the nook.

2.  Remove the battery (if you don't know how, there are further instructions in the manual).

3.  Plug the nook in, without the battery.

The Nook should begin to go through its booting process.  Once booted, replace the battery (don't turn the nook off or unplug).

Many times after replacing the battery, the freezing issue goes away.

If these steps don't work, you should probably call our digital support team in customer service.  They can be reached at 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665).

Hey jo1028 --

Books don't have backlights, or touchscreens, or OTA downloads.  Nor can they store a gazillion books to be readily available at your fingertips, anywhere you are.  I also have a Blackberry, a great PDA which I would not even think of reading a book on as the tiny screen looks and feels nothing like a book.  The nook is currently rated the highest out of 3 e-readers compared (nook, Kindle, and Sony) because the contrast on the black and white screen is easier on the eyes than a color screen.  I look at a backlit, color monitor all day and my eyes are burning by 5:00 p.m.  The touchscreen being at the bottom of the nook took me a minute to get used to, specially the page turner feature.  Go figure, I was anticipating it not to work as easily as it did when I finally got the hang of it.  Now it's easier than turning an actual paper page in a book.  I think the nook is the best buy out there, and even though it may already be yesterday's news with the newer e-readers out on the horizon.  The nook is meant to give the reader the feeling of a book and it does that - and more.

I have had my Nook for just over a week now,,,I was on the wait list,,,patiently waiting for my new gadget.  I have enjoyed it from that day it arrived.  No problems as of yet,,,to me,,it is just to easy to find and buy your next good book.  My only issue is finding a case for it.  Every one i have tried to order is out of stock or not available for a month or so.  But lets be patient and maybe things will start falling into place.    I would buy this again for sure,,,,and know that with a few more upgrades we will find it is exactly perfect.  Or almost. I really think a better version is on the way.

I reading many reviews on the Kindle2, the Sony ereaders, and the Nook, I finally decided to give the Nook a try. I was not successful at just going to the store in my city, because they did not have them. I ordered one online, it only took 3 days, with free shipping. I am pleased to say thay my Nook worked perfectly. I was able to register with no problems, and order a book, again with no problems. I love the color screen. I am also able to swipe to the next page from the color screen window with no problem. Makes me feel like I am reading as I do on my Iphone. I am glad I went ahead and made the purchase. I only wish they had some covers available. I want to be able to protect my investment, and all of the covers that I like are not available. I love my Nook!!!
