nook_logo250.jpgAs we head into December, we wanted to give an update on nook, the eBook reader that continues to be the fastest-selling product at Barnes & Noble.

We are beginning to ship this week, and are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that everyone who ordered a nook before Nov. 20 will receive it by Dec. 25.  As units ship, customers will receive e-mails indicating the estimated arrival date.

As we have said previously, nook orders are being fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. Orders placed beginning today are expected to ship on or about Jan. 11. Orders placed beginning Dec. 4 are expected to ship on or about Jan. 15. (Updated Dec. 4.)

Because we are prioritizing pre-orders, we will have demo units available only in our highest-volume stores on Dec. 7, and we expect to have a very limited quantity available for sale in those stores at a date to be determined.

As a reminder, the best way to get a nook of your own is to order here or at your local Barnes & Noble store.

Thanks for the enthusiastic response to nook. We appreciate your patience, and look forward to getting you the world’s most advanced eBook reader.

Great, so the expected ship date of Dec. 11th for my nook means that I probably won't get it by the 18th like I expected (those who's nooks were supposed to ship today aren't goning to get them til the 9th according to the emails the just got) so if that holds for those of us who's expected ship date is the 11th then we won't get them til the 20th.  Since no one will be at my office on that date, and I'll be at my inlaws in FL there is no way I'll get mine before xmas, and most likely they will attempt to deliver two times then return to sender.  As this is the only gift I was getting this year looks like my xmas is ruined.  Thanks B&N.....for nothing!

I received the email, with the new anticipated delivery time frame. I ordered Nook the first day it was available, therefore I believed it was going to be shipped to me today. However, they did charge my credit card Friday (can you say "Black Friday?" Jeez. They shouldn't charge until they are ready to ship. Whatever the problem, if it is a design flaw or shipping issue from the country of origin, it's going to make for bad publicity for B&N. At least Amazon managed to ship a perfect device on time. This doesn't bode well for B&N in my book, and yes, pun is intended. Another small gripe for me --  they are not allowing use of their membership discount card on any digital device or anything that goes with a digital device (like a cover or a light, or e-book.)

More updates as they come in!!

Have you been watching the eBay auctions??

Shame, shame, shame -- Barnes & Noble should not have hyped this as a Christmas holiday gift.  I had a difficult time deciding which E-book reader to buy.  The Nook was edging out Kindle until this latest fiasco.  I waited until today so I could at least go into the store and see the Nook -- And then I read there is another delay until next week.   I'm now seriously considering buying the Kindle for my daughter since you won't have the Nook In stock for Christmas.  Too bad you handled this so poorly.  Coco

So Kevin...why doesn't B & N be more straight forward with their Nook information? I too was expecting my 2 Nooks to ship today, as my order status still says "expected ship date Nov 30". ...and yet I get an email that says "we expect to have it to you by December 9th"....nothing in the email that says definitively that it will not ship today....why not? And my order status has not changed either (est ship date) ...why not?

Your post above says that you will be shipping orders this week....this seems like a simple math equation that your computer nerds should be able to calculate..no? .....like: 200,000 Nooks ordered during the first day, and we only have 150,000 available to ship today.....hmmm.....that means we email the last 50,000 to order on the first day and tell them they don't get shipped until tomorrow.....etc......Why all the ambiguity?

My email says "expect to get your nook by Dec 14th."  Does that mean I am even further down on the list??

I preordered on October 29th...

I got that e-mail too and honestly, feeling a little frustrated right now. I was under the impression for the last 5 weeks that my Nook was going to ship today because I hadn't heard otherwise from B&N. Now you're telling me you're going to "overnight" it to me so I'll have it by December 9th? What happened to the 2-3 day expedited delivery and shipping November 30 that I signed up for?? It feels like you've chosen to delay shipping the first wave of pre-orders until you can get the units to the stores on December 7...if so, an e-mail a few weeks ago letting me know my shipping was delayed would have been nice.....I'm just sayin'. So...I still have no idea WHEN my Nook is going to ship. And to think if I had ordered the Kindle on October 22 (when I ordered the Nook) I would have had it in my hands 5 days later. It just seems like you don't want to tell the truth....whatever that may be.

I ordered October 21st at 3pm Pacific time...and my email says Dec 9th....SO AAleskovsky...looks like you have to wait even longer.......kind of ridiculous that they are going to have units available on the 7th in the "higher volume stores"....So I guess those of us that live out in the sticks get the shaft to the big city folk....even though we ordered first. All I know is that if I get another message with another delay.....I will be abandoning the Nook for some other deivce.....looks like plenty of suckers are paying $500 on Ebay for these.

I too was excited to get my new Nook.  But as I followed the blogs and pricing, I backed out.  I have been reading on my Kindle 2 since late October.  Really like it.  I'm sure I would have loved my Nook, but I have had 3 business trips and many downloads since then.  I couldn't wait.  If I got a notice that they delayed like you guys are getting, I would not have been pleased and may have jumped ship later.  Looking forward to hearing your reviews after you get it in your hands.

December 14th?!  A promised ship day of Nov. 30.  I have sold more nooks word of mouth than a lousy $10 gift card you pay my patience for 2 freaking weeks?!  You should pay me $50 for my silence and anxiousness.  Even that won't be enough!!

Upgrade to overnight?!  My 2nd order of a Nook already came with that.  It is said to ship on December 7.  That's my 2ND ORDER.  AND B&N DID NOT EVEN MENTION TO THEM (ME) THAT IT'd be late.. I expect to get another mail in a week and that'd bring another definite outrage.  This is  I am so disappointed.  I'm leaving the country on the 18th and how am I even going to get my Nook now?!!!!

AND U GAVE UNITS TO STORES?!! We should've gotten it first.  and $10?  U must be kidding.

What a lot of BS  my is scheduled to ship on 7 December.  I leave for Europe on ther 12th.  If it does not ship well you guys further down on the list will be getting one and I will be buying a Kindle 2

by Lobo599 on ‎11-30-2009 07:44 PM

Figures.... I guess mine won't be coming until Dec14th at the earliest. I just can't figure out why a company like Barnes and Noble does not have it's act together enough to have the shipping/availability date correct. Problem is, none of the companies do. Irex can't come up with a date on the availability of the 800SG having changed it 2-3 times already.

I just wish B & N would come clean and at least give a reason for the delay, i.e., it's the lawsuit, the devices aren't ready, we messed up on the number we have verses the number ordered. The real indicator is that as far as I know, no nooks have been shipped which does not bode well.

Not good B & N, not good, you are blowing an opportunity here and it's too bad..... People make plans on what you tell them and waiting until the afternoon of shipping date to notify people is tacky and bad business...

How about this?  I pay you your lousy $10 gift card and you ship my nook the time you promise?

by sphynx88 on ‎11-30-2009 07:50 PM

I heart you B&N but I'm going to use all my web advertising power now (Forums/Tweet/Facebook) to make B&N Nook cost you even more than it should have just being honest.  You made my xmas gifts not make it to my home before I leave the country.

BTW I stopped at the local B & N store and they had a sign on the front door that said that they would have no demo units until Dec 7th in order to have units for those who preordered. That would indicate to me that units are shipping, but as we know they are not. So the question is, why the two different explainations?

B & N, you need to come clean and tell the public what is going on, to me it seems that you are giving conflicting information.

PS I too have helped B & N sell a nook or two and it's kind of embarassing, these friends are on the border line as far as spending this kind of money on a reader and I wouldn't be surprised if they bail out...

Why is the title --- nook Is Shipping Soon.  Should be - NOOK IS NOT SHIPPING ANYTIME SOON..
