Let's see, how do I vote for "Best E-reader that can't bookmark"?

Or "Worst Customer Service"?

How about "Device consumers want to love, but can't, because it cant even do the basics promised"?

I happen to LOVE my Nook and am kind of tired of all the negative posts that are written on this board about it. Every other post I read has some negative comment or another about the Nook.

So for those thinking about purchasing one and are reading the boards to see others comments. The Nook is great as an eReader, if you want an mp3 player or an application player, or a photo gallery thingy, get one of those phones that do that. I have not added music to my Nook and can't tell you if it has great music quality, and I don't plan to - I bought it to read books. I have found nothing but user friendliness in the Nook and am very satisfied with its features.

Also, my bookmark feature works great. I like how when it goes to sleep it always saves the page I was last on.

I think it would be awesome for Nook to win this award. :smileyhappy:

I agree with RavenClawReader 100%. I had a learning curve with my nook and found the online helps helpful to a point, and when those didn't answer my questions, tech support was great. Turned out any problem I had was my understanding how to interact with the device--read User Error--and once I learned the trick, it has been fantastic.

I, too, got the nook to READ BOOKS. As an online professor, I spend all day looking at a computer screen. The different ink format of the e-reader is a relief to my eyes, and I never thought I'd say it, but I find I even prefer it over hard copy pages. Navigating books is a breeze, and I am a page/chapter/section flipper rarely reading a book straight through. I have had no problems highlighting or bookmarking. People who are having problems may not be learning how to use their device.

I prefer the nook over other e-readers because the separate touchscreen at the bottom. LOVE IT!

Don't misunderstand - I want to love it. And I only bought it to read books on, so the fact that it isn't (take your pick of what extras people want from it) doesn't bother me. But it's simply not realistic to never turn it off - and when it gets turned off or plugged into my computer, bye-bye bookmarks. I'm reading Gone With the Wind right now guys, and trying to find your place in that beast isn't fun. I just think it's silly that it's up for awards like this when it doesn't perform a basic expectation of all bookreaders - a requirement that is no way new technology. It's even more silly that B&N, knowning full well how many issues it has, is bragging about it being up for awards. I'll also admit to being bothered by the fact that the plastic cracked on the page forward button after 2 weeks (and B&N initlaly didn't want to cover it under the basic warranty, although it's obviously a problem with the plastic, and has now been added to the list of known issues). I feel it was a product that was rushed in more than one way, that B&N has terrible communication with its customers, and that it's nowhere near where it needs to be to be considered up for awards. I'm glad that some people got nooks that functioned right out of the box. Some of us most certainly did not.

Um, o.k..  I LOVE my nook and actually went to the page to vote for it.  However.... I don't see it listed anywhere!

I've been going crazy researching both the Nook and the Kindle.  I found things I like about both of them, and I'm aware of the shortcomings as well.  I've been listening to both sides bash each other.  Actually I think it's the people buying the product doing more bashing than the companies that make them.  Ha ha ha . . .  They are both good products, they are the same in some ways and different in other ways, which is nice because people should have choices.  The Nook is newer, and B&N still may have a few things to work out, and I trust they will.  They're a big company and this is a big product for them.  They want to make it work.  I settled on the Nook, and now I can't wait to get my hands on it.  :smileyhappy:

I voted!  I love my Nook.

I have to agree about the bookmarks. SUPPOSEDLY this will be fixed in the update due to start this weekend, but we'll see. Of course the boards are full of negative comments. It's a new product with a bunch of kinks and that's the only place B & N set up for customers to get help. Sometimes their customer service works wonders, I know, but often the reps don't have any more clue than the customers when it comes to how to fix a problem because the company hasn't made the fix available yet. It's a cute ereader, with features whose potential spurred me to buy it over the Kindle 2. I don't regret my choice but among many other small issues, the can't-turn-it-off-or-you-lose-bookmarks one is a biggie; that's just a fundamental for an ereader in my book

I had the same problem with my nook, not saving my bookmarks.  But after the updated download, I no longer have that problem.  It was completely corrected.  So if you haven't done the new download, do it, it takes care of that problem.

I'm upset that my frame has cracked below the page turner.  It isn't even the button I use the most.  I have never dropped it, or set anything but my reading glasses on top of it.  I am ultra careful with my nook.  I am still waiting for the cover that I ordered.  I am so upset about this because now I have to back up all of my ebooks and send it away to be repaired and be without it for who knows how long!  I use my nook constantly since I'm on constant bedrest right now.  I am so bummed!

Has anyone else had this problem?  How long did it take you to get it back? And why do you have to give them your credit card number?
