Beginning today, we are sending OTA over the next week. If you want to get V1.2 immediately, follow the instructions for manual download here. If your nook is registered and has connectivity, it will automatically download the software and install it on your device, during the next week. Depending on your connection, the whole process takes 10-15 minutes via Fast & Free wireless and 5-7 minutes via Wi-Fi or 4-5 minutes for the manual download, during which time you should NOT turn your nook off. Once the software update is completed, your nook will automatically restart and display the Home screen. Hmm, I like the icons better but what really sucks is I just lost my page on my open book installing the update. I guess this is a fix included so it shouldn't happen again but it's pretty annoying.
I did like the old menus better, though. Too much gradient on this version. Oh well.

My device froze for an hour after the update. It was trying to find my 'last page read' and said something like "loading your book" but was unresponsive and both touch screen and on/off button didn't work. I had to pop out the battery (a move I've done with my cell phone many times) to reconnect and "unfreeze" the device. It seems to be working fine now, but not sure if there is a glitch with the update.

Feature Request: Cover Flow is cool, but "page flow" would be revolutionary. Please, can we have it in v1.3?
Story: One of the limitations of the eBook experience is the "tunnel vision" caused by not being able to flip pages easily, the way you would in a paper book. This would be easy to solve if you adapted the interface used to "cover flow" books in the Library view and repurposed it to show a representation of individual pages that could be swiped forward and backward on the color touchscreen while reading an eBook. It could be a simple as a page number on each white rectangle, or perhaps have the chapter number included. I just want a quick way to navigate to an exact page (not just follow a menu to the beginning of a chapter).
I think your coders are capable of this, and it would give nook another huge advantage over competitor's devices (that don't have touchscreens).

I went to my local B&N store, but the OTA was not available. I updated via the manual download instructions. I was able to complete the update with no issues!

I tried manual download but couldn't get it to work. Is there a problem with Macs? What is the Nook "root directory"? That could be the problem since I didn't know where to drop the download. (download appeared to download, just didn't do anything for my Nook.

I just did my download update off my PC. Be patient! It's not done until it restarts - took several minutes.
It's up and running great. I don't see any change in the icons or menu???

I downloaded the 1.2 upgrade. No problems. The new icons are fine, as a quick way to show you've gotten the upgrade. All my page numbers and last page read were fine after 1.2 install. I find the finger swipe page turn still to be flaky, not working, then working every time, then not working at all on the same book. ARRRRGGG - what is the trick. Nook does seem a little faster jumping from function to function on the touch screen. I like the idea in the comment by "apokalypsis" suggesting a future "cover flow" type of page turn. Hope the future holds more upgrades and additional functionality that will take advantage of the ANDROID operating system. B&N Keep up the good work. Nook is fantastic, I love having a dozen or more books in the space (size) of a small paperback book.

Please help, when I go to my library (post update v1.2) it goes to My Documents and finds nothing! Then it does not give me the option to go to BN content. I have rebooted twice, downloaded a new book and still nothing. I can open my old samples when I connect my nook to my computer and use Adobe, but I cannot open the books I have purchased. I re-downloaded my purchased book and it shows up in my tree but my nook will still not let me access it. My new New Yorker just came in and I can retrieve it from The Daily but (again) not from my library. I really want to read my book!

I just updated mine and I am having the same problem another person had. Everytime I try to read a book it freezes. Is there any way to fix this?

The update works just fine for me - everything works with no issues, though I did lose the page where I was reading. I had to find it again. The instructions need to be a little more descriptive as non-techies will not know what a root menu is (it's the main (first) menu that opens - you just drag and drop the file to the main window that opens for your nook drive.) Be sure to close all windows before trying to eject your Nook from my computer. I like the new icons and absolutely love my Nook!

Mine updated automatically this afternoon. Guess Barnes & Noble likes me better than the rest of you.
As well they should.
If you were reading something from the "Twilight" series and the Nook lost your place, I'd like to believe it wasn't so much an accident (as it must have been when it lost my place in Stephen Baxter's "Manifold: Origins"), so much as the programmers gently encouraging you to read something more worthy of our species' place at the top of the food chain.
