I have been lurking on this board since the nook was announced and I just wanted to say thanks for all the information and perseverance to help each other with issues to those that have took this on. As I said, I have been following the nook for a while and really wouldn't mind having one but I decided to wait this one out on the side lines since I kinda figured that an announcement so close to the holidays could only mean that B&N wanted to get this out the door ASAP. I test Beta software for a living so the last thing I really want to do when I get home is do it for free so I do empathize with all your pains. It sounds like B &N is doing it's best to get the main issues resolved but I know that comes at little consolation when you are excited about something and have paid good money for it. As an avid MMO junky I have experienced similar situations with computer games and have had many of the same feelings that some of you have expressed on these boards.
Here are some things that I would suggest if you want to get a better experience from any help forums.
- State your issue clearly. (It is possible that someone has found a fix or work around and will point you in the path of least resistance to a solution)
- Detach yourself emotionally from the issue
- Ignore forum trolls. ( These people thrive on conflict so don't let it get to you.)
- Use the Search feature first where available.
- Remember that the people trying to help you are doing it for free unless they have an “Administrator” name plate.
- Don't take yourselves so seriously.
- Be a good community member and offer help where you can even if it's just a link to a similar post.
- Don't be jerk when answering questions or when asking them for that matter.
In closing, I hope by the time I purchase a nook (march possibly) that this place will be a little more community oriented and a little less vile. By then, I would expect most of the major issues to be worked out and we can focus on more enjoyable conversations. This is not meant to offend anyone in anyway. I just wanted to give an outside perspective and a little advise that you are welcome to take or leave. Thanks again to those that are helpful and promote a good nook community. I hope to join you soon.

Excellent post! I kind of wish they would open up a nook general discussion forum. It's hard having only the product's support forum to talk about the nook. Naturally, most posts are going to be negative or issues... it's what a support forum is all about. A moderated general discussion forum would be awesome.
Have a taco. I love you.

Here's a non-B&N site dedicated to the Nook:

Thanks Tome-Reader, I was hoping to find a forum that is more than just the support aspect of the nook. ![]()

Thanks ZenoZ, I have been checking the board for some time now. It is interesting to see how some of the same people offer real support and answer questiong and some are just more negative. One soon learns to skip by some posts! I for one appreciate your feedback and support to this community. Laurel to you!

I think your post is great advice. My nook is due 1/11. I am hoping that most of the problems that others had will be mostly worked out by the time I get it. I am aware that I am getting a new product so I may have a few issues and I am more than OK with that. I am very positive about my nook, it's my first e-reader and I researched all the others before finally deciding on the Nook. I'm looking forward to years of reading with it.
