Anyone have a life??

[ Edited ]

Apparently, you can't please anyone around here.  I've been mostly reading the posts and have kept my thoughts to myself, but I'm constantly amazed here.  I'm as anxious as anyone to get my nook, but jeez, some people here need to get a life.

If it's not "when is my nook shipping?", It's "I got my tracking number."  (haha fooled you, it's just for my cover).  People constantly complaining that B&N is not responding to questions, or complaining that their marketing sucks, or their customer service sucks or the book selection sucks, or the prices are too high.  The interface is laggy, the nook is too heavy and will injure me, the covers are too expensive. WHERE'S THE USER GUIDE B&N???  WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU, THE NOOK IS SHIPPING AND YOU CAN'T POST THE USER GUIDE?????  What's wrong with B&N... Didn't they anticipate that thousands of people would order the greatest book reader since sliced bread??  Why can't I get mine before the holidays?  It's a gift, dammit.  What?? The demos aren't in the store yet?  Maybe the nook doesn't exist!  It's vaporware.  B&N made this all up to rile us up before Christmas.  Hey, where are my free books??  The WiFi isn't on yet at the B&N stores?  What's up with that??  I want to use the brochure mockup to see if I can download a book.  How can they not have it turned on??  Well, I'll tell you, they better get mine shipped or I'm gonna go and buy a Kindle - that'll show 'em.  I'll single handedly pay back B&N for all the pain and suffering they've caused me.  Hey, I might even sue for the pain and agony they've caused.

After reading all of these threads, ad nauseam, the one that really got me today was that after ALL of the anticipation, the hoping, the praying, the waiting, the speculation, was this:  one of the fine members here had the "nerve" to post his initial reaction of his newly received nook today after playing with it for an hour.  He was obviously excited about receiving it, and wanted to let everyone know his initial thoughts and experience (which happened to be very different from several official reviews citing problems; primarily the lag and slow performance).  You know what he got for his troubles?  A comment disparaging him for not possibly being able to give a "good review" after only an hour of time with the nook.  What???  After everything else that's been said here over the past few weeks??  Who ever said he was giving a review --- he posted his INITIAL THOUGHTS WITH HIS NOOK.  I personally want to commend Mike_S76 for his excellent post and on his initial thoughts in his first hour with his nook.  THANK YOU MIKE.

Let's keep this in perspective folks; the nook is not the vaccine that's going to stop the spread of a virus that's going to end the world.  It's an electronic book reader.  If it takes an extra couple of weeks to show up, is that really a big deal?  All the B&N bashing isn't helping anything.  Thanks to all those that haven't used the opportunity to complain and shoot everything in sight.

One question for the bashers.  Why in the world would you buy a product you hate so much from a company you despise so much?  Does that make you happy?

I don't have my nook yet.  Know what I'm gonna do tonight?  I'm going to start reading a novel I bought a week ago.  It's actually made of paper.  I think I might actually enjoy myself. :smileysurprised:

Not going to quote you Frank, too long!  But every word worth reading.  I've been a little astonished at the bashing going on also.  Good on you!  :smileyhappy:

Re: Anyone have a life??

Awww, you quoted me.  That's adorable.

Nope, it's my day off and I chose to come here today to look for people saying they got their Nooks.  Haven't seen many people say they got them and I still stand by what I say that you can't give a good review within the first hour you have the device.  Give it some time.

By the way, do you have a life?  You just spent how long writing out this long rant putting down almost every single person on this B&N board?  They are consumers, they have put a lot of faith and good hard earned money in to B&N.  They have every right to voice their concerns and wishes.  And I'm quite sure they are all grown adults and don't need you to tell them how they are supposed to act.

Enjoy your novel.

Yep, I do.  About 15 minutes.  Not everyone, only those that do nothing but complain.

I'm sure that most of them are.  However, allow me to quote you again...

He's had it for an hour.  Can't really give a good review after having something only an hour.  I'd rather that all of you learn your way around the Nook, get to know it well, read a few books on it, find books from other sites and load them to it, go to B&N, see if you can read any books for that 1 hour while you're there, tell us what kind of coupons you got...that sort of thing.  That takes awhile, not 1 hour.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize you had exclusive rights on telling other people what you'd like them to do...

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize you had exclusive rights on telling other people what you'd like them to do..."

Wow, how quickly you forget what you just wrote.  You went on and on and on complaining about topics people are discussing and telling them it's not a vaccine, it's just an ereader.  I simply said they have the right to voice their opinions.  While I understand that some people are getting worked up, and I understand that a lot of it has to do with excitement of getting the ereader and yes, it would benefit some to relax and realize they have no control over it, they still have the right to say what they want without a page long rant from you telling them how disgusted you are over the whole thing.

And while you're busy quoting me, perhaps you'd like to do a little more reading on these boards to find out what I said to the ORIGINAL poster when he wrote what he did and not just what I said to the person who began an entirely new thread quoting the OP who had just written:

"

I'm more interested in your actual experience than the touch screen.  The touch screen is only one part of the Nook.

What will it be like when you settle in to bed for the night, grab your Nook, pick a book you want to read, get on the Nook to get it and actually start reading.  I want to know about THAT experience as THAT is what these devices are for.

I want to know if the page turn lags or do you hardly notice it at all?  How hard is it to get to your book?  Did it keep your place from the last time you were reading, like a bookmark?  (I don't want to hear what it's supposed to do, I want to hear what it actually does.)  What do you do with the book when you're done?  Do you file it?  Do you leave it on the screen?  What?  How easy is it to do whatever it is you're going to do with that book once you're done with it?

How many books that you wanted have you been finding?  How are the prices?  How easy was it to get them to the device?  What about other books from other sites?  Any problems loading them?  How about the 1 hour reading in B&N?  Did you find any books you were allowed to do this with?  Did you get a coupon while you were in there?  What was it for and how much?

This is what I'm interested in hearing about the Nook.  The actual experience of getting a book, reading the book and filing the book away when I'm done.  That's going to take a little while before people can truthfully answer those questions."

It's time to step back and take a deep breath people.  Some conversations are not worth being had.

Oops, guess I'll have to brush up on my reading skills once I get my nook...

And FWIW Cat, my original post was half rant, half tongue in cheek.  (OK, maybe 80% rant, 20% tic.)  Sorry to have brought you into it.

Re: Anyone have a life??

Great initial post Frank!  Pretty much spot on with your assessment of the whining that has been going on for some time on the board (no, I am not talking about those of us who have asked / answered the majority of questions here, but those who seem to like to rant if everything does not go their way).

Well Frank, if there is one thing I can understand is someone misunderstanding what your intent was behind the post.

Fair enough and I actually do hope you enjoy your Nook when you get it.

Re: Anyone have a life??

Diversity is one of the things that makes life interesting. Different people respond in different ways to the same things. Let those that are happy with something be happy and those that are unhappy with something be unhappy. No one is right or wrong, just let people be who they are and enjoy watching the drama of life unfold. Give peace a chance?? LOL:smileytongue:

Frank...u finally said what I've been thinking. But I've discovered on these blogs is that some people are just impossible to please and will find fault in most things, I just try to ignore them.
