nook's innovative LendMe™ technology allows you to lend an eBook from your nook to any device on which the B&N eReader is installed. The loan will be for a maximum 14-day period, during which time the lender will not be able to read the book. The eBook will automatically be returned, either at the end of the 14-day period or earlier if the lendee so chooses. Each eBook can be loaned only once at this time.

I am going to assume then that you will be looking into having the lending be able to be more than once as some books are quite lengthy and may take some more than 14 days to read.  So please say that you will be modifying that in some way, say maybe 2 times to the same email at least.

Quite honestly, it should be as many times as you want. Since the file itself is being DEACTIVATED when you lend it, it really should be up to you how much you want to lend it.

The 14-day thing is fine. I think 2 weeks is a good standard. However, I need to be able to lend it more than once, and there really shouldn't be a limit on that.

TO BARNES AND NOBLE: The key to success in this kind of market. [transition from physical to digital media]

A) Provide as MANY of the same benefits of the physical media, in the same way [if not better] people are used to

B) While doing A, ADD as many things as possible to create ease of use

Basically, if I buy a book, I can give it someone, for as long I want, and during that time, I don't have the book.

From my understanding when I called BN Customer Service they said that you can only loan the one eBook for 14 days to one account but then after the 14 days you can loan that same eBook to someone else. For example, I can loan my eBook of Twilight to my sister for 14 days and after that 14 days, she can no longer read it and I cannot resend it to her but I CAN then send it to my mother. Is this correct? Seems silly if you can only loan each book out once and only once period. Some clarification would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your inquiry TinkerBell1981.  At this time, you can only lend an eBook to someone else once.  After that one time, you will not be able to lend it to anyone else.

So you are saying that each book is available to loan only once and once period. How will the eBook be disabled to prevent from loaning to another friend? I am getting a different answer from customer service (1800thebook) They are telling me that I can loan the eBook more than once. (saying that I can loan it to sister's nook and after she is done I can loan to my mother as long as it is a different e-mail address) How can we all get on the same page so that we (the customers) are not confused? Is there someone at customer service I should talk to and tell them that you, Josh_W, are saying that we can only loan books once and once?

Sorry for the confusion and conflicting information you have received.

The policy at this time for lending eBooks is that each title can only be lent once.  I will go ahead and communicate this to customer service to assure that we're all on the same page regarding this topic.

I am betting that this is the first feature to get changed once the Nook is released. Since you can't read it on your device once you lend it out, it really makes no sense that you can only lend an eBook out once. I can see how they should limit it to once per account, but you should be able to lend it out to as many people as you feel like lending it out too. Otherwise we are better off just buying the real book over these eBooks.This is one of those things where they give you a benefit and then limit it to the point where it is going to be a perceived negative instead of a positive.

Also - I bet that publishers are the ones fighting for these restrictions, not Barnes and Noble. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

the more a book is lent the greater the potential audience for it and others by the same author. I have a number of books in my library BECAUSE I borrowed it (from a friend or library) and decided I wanted my own copy. I believe it would enhance long term sales if loaning were allowed to be more free....perhaps a half dozen times per book if it makes B&N too nervous.

I am still being told by bn.com customer service that I CAN loan my eBook out to more than once account but only one account at at time. Not sure when the confusion will finally be figured out.

Can someone check to see if I would be allowed to get eBooks from public libraries, please?  Or do the books have to come from B&N only?

Thanks for your inquiry 1goodbook.  You will only be able to access eBooks from the Barnes & Noble eBookstore on nook. 

However, there are other file formats that are compatible with nook and can be side-loaded either through a USB connection or a microSD memory card.  Those formats are PDF, ePub, and PDB files.

Don't keep telling us (the customers) that cause we get it. You NEED to get it out to the Reps in the B&M Stores that are missrepresenting this issue.

I am still being told I will be able to loan my one and only ebook I own on my nook as many times as I want "cause you own it" by the Reps in Naples, FL as well as Manchester, NH.

It would appear that nook will indeed be supported,

but there still is some question in my mind

about the Adobe solution as several items listed indicate they will not happen until 2010...

I think Joeypore is exactly on point about lending.  It was the lending feature that had decided me on the Nook.  It makes sense that when you lend a physical book to your friend, you are unable to read it during that time because it is not physically in your possession. 

I was experimenting with Kindle for iphone and had read the Geography of Bliss.  I told, my friend, Debbie about the book and she was interested, but I could not lend it to her because I had bought it on Kindle.  This is why I have never bought a Kindle and was so excited about the Nook.

If you are now saying that I cannot lend my books to more than one friend more than once, you have destroyed the entire feature which I was purchasing the Nook for.  I might as well purchase a Kindle, they make no pretense regarding their books, you can't share them with anyone. 

Why make a vague claim that we can lend books to our friends only to have it be a half-ass promise?

I'm very disappointed in this.
