Bookmarks and Highlighting

I've highlighted, I've bookmarked and I just realize my nook wont show it after I've turned the page.  The whole idea of a bookmark and a highlight is that it stands out.  I have to be on the page and guess or try to remember if i highlighted something and press highlights for this page and it might come up.  Is that a bug or is that it?

Also on another note or rather a question to you all knowing; do i have to download the e-reader on the B&N site to receive the updates for the nook or any updates?

Re: Bookmarks and Highlighting

I think this is the WORST feature of the nook and I hope it gets fixed with the next software update - highlighting and notes just doesn't work! :smileysurprised:

I've had the same problem.  I'm not sure if it's only on free epub docs or if it's true of all ebooks.  So annoying!

With regards to the bookmarks...well, I thought of bookmarks as simply a way to "jump" to the page you're seeking.  I didn't expect to see any indication that a page is "bookmarked", but I can see how that'd be useful.  But yeah, i've had the same experience with highlights; they are not very useful.  What I've found is that when you have highlights "off", there's a small mark on the left side of the page (less than 1/8" wide...kind of a rectangle with a triangle pointing toward the text)  But if I turn "Show Highlights" on, then I can see the text that's been highlighted.  Does this not appear for you?

OK, this one is easier.  :smileyhappy: No, you don't have to download the ereader for your computer in order to receive updates for the nook...or for "The Daily", if that's what you're talking about.  For system updates, you do have to either have WiFi access (either by going to a B&N store, or finding a Wi-Fi hotspot; see Connectivity on the FAQ page (bn.com) if you're confused) or you can download updates to your computer and then "sideload" them to your nook using the included cord.  In neither case are you required to download the PC eReader software.

Some of my highlights show others don't. At first I thought I had failed to highlight & attempted to highlight those passages; however, this resulted in a dialogue asking if I wished to remove highlights. So apparently, nook remembers the highlighted passages just fails to show them.

I particularly want to mark passages in books I have read for a book club as I do with my non-ebooks -- am very disappointed this feature does not work.

Re: Bookmarks and Highlighting

I've been having the same problems with the highlighting feature and it's extremely frustrating considering I just dropped $250 on this thing and it doesn't even come with a cheap case!

As far as highlighting goes, I've found that if I first bookmark a page, my highlights will show up.  I've also discovered that for some reason when you highlight the last word in a paragraph, the first word somehow becomes un-highlighted.  If you highlight a section and the highlight doesn't show up, the nook still thinks the highlight is there.  Delete the highlight (that you can't see), reboot the nook and try again; usually this works.

Today I had a far more maddening thing happen.  When I fired up my nook I discovered that all my bookmarks & highlights on the book I'm currently reading, were gone.  Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, were you able to get them back?
