Projectnooklook: I feel no need to convince you of anything. Is it possible that you just wanted to start a recreational argument?
Great fun sometimes, but I am a bit concerned about dreamcatcher and add my good wishes for a complete recovery for her husband. Mine is 15 years post-cancer so take heart.
Some of us like e readers and especially Nook for our own reasons. I will be happy to retain books that I have read since in the past I have had to discard so very many. For some, that meant a repurchase at a later date. I am one of those who tends to re-read favorite books, finding nuances I missed on previous reads. To each his own.

OK, Harry Potter nerd moment over.

aw, heck. I can't help it. No part of your rambling, paranoia-infused, nigh-incoherent post is in any way relevant to the subject of this message board. Your eponymous "Project" is nothing more than an opportunity for you to pop in here for a tinfoil-hat hatchet job on the nook. Ergo, you are an Amazon troll here to discourage would be nook purchasers. Now, I won't feed the troll again. Shoo.

projectnooklook - you sir, are hilarious or just a plain idiot.
Why do people have cell phones, iPods, iTouch phones with a million different apps? Why is there a need for texting? Why do cell phones have the ablitiy to take pictures?
Now take the time to convince me you are not an idiot.

I appreciate those you have expressed concern for my situation. I just have noticed that some of these threads both here and on the kindle boards get nasty and people say such mean things.
Does it really need to get so nasty. I personally think both e-readers are very good (according to nook specs it looks like a good one) I purchased e-books in anticipation of owning a nook.
I just want to say there many more important things to argue about than which e-reader is better and how one will destroy the other or how people are stupid for buying one over the other.

As long as there are alternatives ultimately the choice comes down to personal preference. From your arguments it sounds like your reading habits, lifestyle, and general philosophy would lead you away from getting an eReader. The same logic can be applied to cell phones, iPods, and laptops. You don't "have" to use them so if your habits, needs, beliefs, etc. make them seem like a silly idea then you most likely wont get one of them.
For non essential items like this the buying decision is different for almost everyone, some will buy because they think it is cool. Some will buy because they do read three books at time, some because they read the same book several times, the are a ton of different reasons. All anyone here can do to convince you is to list their reasons. If those reasons don't sway you then that is fine and there is no way to convince you to buy one. At this point in the history of eReaders there is no sense arguing over much of anything since they are a luxury item and all of their benefits are a matter of personal opinion and intended usage.

The cellular phone is the next logical step in the evolution of the telephone, smaller wireless and portable. The cell phone gives you the convenience of using your phone when you need it and eliminates the old pay phone that we were saddled with for so long. The cell phone is an improvement over the old "landline" phone, solving health issues that arise when you use a pay phone, have you seen how gross some of them became?
Texting is another logical step in evolving communication, if I only need to drop a small note to someone to say "hey im running late" well you can do that, you don't need to have any longer a conversation about it and waste minutes you can otherwise use just BSing about your day.
Now as for all those apps and the Iphone and taking pictures? Again more frivilous crap! I don't own and Iphone don't intend to own one and have only a phone that makes calls and texts. I even have a pay as you go disposable phone!
I'll leave your last childish response alone, I know you want to feel like a big man trying to belittle someone onf the internet, Im sure you boo the competitors at the Special Olympics as well!!

Why should we convince you? You either like it or you don't. Given all the information you have recieved on ebooks and ereaders, I would think that you are qualified to make a personal decesion on weither or not an ereader would be a worthwhile investment for your lifestyle. Capitalism brought us the nook, and now it is up to the person to decide if they would like to purchase one. I'm sure everyone here who preordered or will buy Nook from the BN store made an educated decesion on why they have or will purchase the Nook. It doesn't matter WHY they did it, who cares. Don't rain on everyone's parade, we like it for whatever reason. You don't like it fine. Don't buy one then.

Sorry, that was a mistake in my grammar. My intent was to say that I'm not bound by a contract with the plain non app cellular phone that I own.

After the insults you threw around at everyone first.. and continue to do so.. you have the gall to say that (incluing more insults). What a child. Consipracy nutcases like you do not deserve any intelligent debate because the only person in the debate with any actual intelligence would be the one debating you. At no point in this entire thread have you stated anying of value or intelligence. So far all you have done is acted like a little child.. crying "but what I like and use is good and what you like and use is useless and evil and the big bad gobermbent is going to get you." You are probably so ignorant you actually believe in tin-foil hats, super silent black stealth helecopters and alien autopsy.

Thanks guy! I see that you selectively read my arguments and picked out those things that you could easily make fun of!
Let me congratulate you on a job well done!
I would like to know your response to the point I made about these devices causing more ecological harm to our planet than a regular paperback?
The fact that you don't wish to dabate me is fine, and your insults toward me are moot as I can't be offended by someone who took his net-handle from a Weeaboo porno!
Thanks for playing tho!!

for me it has to do with the ability to buy books & download them without going to the store & something smaller than a big hard back in my bag I bring to work, I had a heart attack 6 years ago & had some damage done so anything that makes my walk from the car to my office easier is a plus. Another plus is my eyes are not what they once were I like adjustable fonts & it helps to read. Lastly & not a real reason to buy is I like techie things, things like lasptops, cell phones all help make my life a bit nicer & I can communicate with people easier without driving , I also get the pleasure to visit nice forums like this & meet nice folks. I would suggest that you try one & see for yourself what it's about before knocking it...
