Free ebooks

Ok so I preordered my nook yesterday, but I have a question about the free ebooks.  I have checked out the the free ebooks by clicking free ebooks on bn.com.  What I'm wondering is where are the rest? BN is boasting have over 500K free ebooks, but there is nowhere near 500K in the free ebooks I've been browsing. Does anyone else know how to find the rest?

Re: Free ebooks

They are through Google Books.  If you put in * in the search for ebooks, it will come up with all available ebooks.  Then sort by price and you'll get all of the free books listed first.  Just be wary, the google books are loaded with errors.

Re: Free ebooks

If you're looking for classics and other older books, try gutenberg.org or manybooks.net. They have hundreds of free books for download, and unlike Google they are proofread!

Re: Free ebooks

feedbooks.com is another good source for free ebooks.

That sounds good but I tried it and after the first 5000 books you get no more results.  The first 3000 or so books are french, the next group are in german.  When the english books start to roll around it peters out after a couple hundred books entitled Abraham Lincoln.

You'd probably be better off looking for a specific book and sorting by price.  Guenevol's tip of checking out the other sites is better than what you can get through bn.com anyway.  The google books were never proofread and have tons of errors in them.

Re: Free ebooks

Hello, i was just curious about this reply. With the Nook do you absolutely have to stick to BN ebooks or can you use other books from other sites. Like Borders for example? Do you also know if there are any extra charges because the usage of AT&T 3G network use?

Re: Free ebooks

There would not be any additional charges for using the 3G, but you can only do a direct download for nook using bn.com.  If you download books from other sites, you have to do that on your computer and then transfer them by SD card, or USB connection.  I don't think you would be able to use the ebooks from Borders.  With each company having different formats, and different DRMs, I imagine the answer would be no.  You can use sites like fictionwise to get books as long as it's in a format supported by nook.  But again, you will have to transfer them via SD or USB.
