Re: Jan. 11 Orders

Right on :smileyhappy:

I just received mine.  The biggest disappointment is the packaging.  I will keep the plastic case it is encased in.   It is  very well constructed want to see what else it can be used for.  I think I was expecting the NOOK packaged in easier to access cardboard.  Card

The nook would not take more than a few minutes of charge before the light went out.  Considering the paperwork that came with it states 3 1/2 to 4 hours, I thought this very odd.  I then registered.  I have a secure Wi-Fi but it must have used a 3G network.  Lightening fast registration.  I then browsed some books, bought one, again super fast download.  Wanted to look around a bit and froze on the book that had just downloaded. Not sure how that happened because I did not click the book just purchased.  After 45 minutes, discovered it was not going to move or turn off.  Calling customer service, one very smart person asked if I had taken the battery out.  Honestly, put a message on the front of the automated system stating this.  I took the battery out (need small Philips screwdriver) left it out about 60 seconds and reinserted, put the screw back in and the back cover.  The battery now shows almost empty.  It is charging now.  I think the freezing screen syndrome has to do with the battery having a top off of a charge. I was very surprised when out of the box it looked as if it had a full charge.  I connected to electricity.  The amber light went out so quickly (indicating full charge).  I believe it has the correct showing of battery charge.  I expect it will take the 3- 4 hours now for full charge.

I am not disappointed by this at all.  I am excited to have it in my possession.  Small first bump in the life of electronics. No big deal.  See value in placing a message on the Customer Service automated system for all who are experiencing the stuck, frozen, stationary screen to remove the battery.  Brilliant!  Can someone do this please?  It will stop the long wait for an answer and frustrated customers from extensive wait times.

I am thrilled to have this technology and more over to have multiple books installed to have with me wherever I go.  I enjoy reading.  It is as important to me to be able to read as it is to have air to breathe.

I researched e-book readers for the last two years.  The only choices I thought would work for me were the Kindle and the Sony.  Each device lacked the fullness of what I wanted to have.  What I had hoped for was a marriage of the two.  Then the Nook came out.  Low and behold the best features, I was looking for are in the Nook.  I am grateful someone decided to make this product available.  Thank you to whom ever moved on creating the nook, as it is just what I needed.

Re: Jan. 11 Orders

Mine just got here. =)  It started up just fine, registration was simple, and all the books I've been buying are on it and so far I have had no freezing when formatting.

Good luck to those who are still waiting. Hope they show up soon.

Re: Jan. 11 Orders

Got my Nook on Monday, and after two days no major issues. was worried about connectivity as i had heard conflicting reports about AT&T's coverage where I live. I had heard 3G was do be here at the first of the year, but then maybe not. happily it's apparently here as i registered and downloaded a couple of previews within minutes. buying a book worked just fine. moved a picture from my laptop to it as my screensaver just fine. swiping the touch screen to turn the page doesn't work real smooth, but who cares. using the buttons on the side works just fine. if you try to navigate through it too fast it occassionally will just default to the home screen/screensaver page. but this has only happened a couple of times and i'm sure with later software updates will be better.

i am bothered that all the things i read about being able to lend books from you nook before i purchased it didn't say anything about only getting to lend a book one time ever. which is pretty lame. but performace wise so far it's been pretty great.

I too would like to see this change.  As well as the fact that not all books can be lent.  I think something similar to what happened with the kindle's text to speech happened here-they didn't realize when first announcing this feature that there might be some issues with publishers or anyone else.  I think and am hoping that in the future this will change, though they might have to come up with some new agreements with publishers.  It would also be great to see the ability to give an ebook to someone else, but since this is all really new territory only time will tell.

Re: Jan. 11 Orders

My nook arrived last night. I plugged it in, registered it, and downloaded books without a hitch.  Once it was charged I side loaded pictures and music which worked perfectly.  It is wonderful and I look forward to many hours of reading.  Good job BN!!

Re: Jan. 11 Orders

Nook is here and charged, but not able to register.:smileysad:  Will try to do so tomorrow at the nearest BN store 35 minutes away.  If it doesn't work, I'll just sideload and wait until I can get where there is AT&T 3G service in the next few weeks!  Enjoy your nook everyone!!
