Re: Network Unavailable

I'm havnig the same network issues.  I can't download my new books.  I'm getting frustrated and almost sorry I chose the nook over the Kindle.  Every one I know has a Kindle, and they all love them.  I KNOW this is a first-generation product, but that is no excuse for a poor product.  Just reading these message boards upsets me.  This is crazy.  If the nook wasn't ready for market, they should have waited.  Period.

I totally agree with the person who said B and N needs to get on this -- look at all the complaints.

I should say that I'm generally a very positive, optimistic person.  However, my frustration level is about at it's peak.  :smileysad:

Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Network unavailable - This is how I fixed it

This is how I fixed the network unavailable problem.

1.  Turned off Wifi so that I was on the cellular network

2.  Purchased a "free" book

3.  Went to My Library and clicked Check for New B&N Content

4.  My new book showed up

5.  Turned on Wifi

6.  Purchased a "free" book

7.  Went to My Library and clicked Check for New B&N Content

8.  The second new book showed up.

After that the problem did not come back.  Let's hope it stays that way.  I had previously successfully used my Nook without incident on both the cell and Wifi networks for many weeks.  The only incident that preceded this problem was that after several days of not using my Nook, I found a message on the screen that the battery was critically low.  There was a picture of a power cord on the screen.  After trying to plug it in and resetting several times, I found a tip on a message board to remove the battery, plug in the electricity (without the battery), and wait for a reboot.  It worked and after the battery was fully recharged, I tried to Check for New B&N Content and received the Network Unavailable message.  Hope this helps.

Re: Network unavailable - This is how I fixed it

I had suspected that the reason that our Nook quit working on WiFi was that it could not connect via AT&T wireless. Turns out, this is true for us. I took the Nook down the driveway to the street where AT&T wireless works. The Nook connected, set the proper time, downloaded waiting content and became happy. I went back up the driveway to my home (where there is no wireless coverage) and for the time being, all is well.

This said, the Nook must need to make a periodic cellular connection in order to stay registered.

All the best.

Re: Network unavailable - Odd

Odd/Strange:  I was able to purchase a book but it would not let me download the Alice in Wonderland screensavers without that "network unavailable" message and I tried several times! :smileysad:
