Please discuss the ability NOOK will have to download recorded "Books on Tape" via an MP3 format. If I have downloaded to my computer a recorded book from say audible.com will I be able to import the audible book and play it on my Nook. Will I be able to purchase audible books in a MP3 format from Barnes and Noble and listen to them through my nook player? I understand this is an ereader and does not have the ability to convert text to words. But that is rather dry even if It were possible. I am referencing prerecorded audio. I would like to be able to stop reading a book and then access the book via recorded audio in the car or while doing task, in the kitchen etc. Are you able to scroll and bookmark mp3 audio files? Thank you for any help in clarifying this? What is the sound volume of the ereader?

I got the following response from audible.com about their ability to use the mp3 audio format to put books on tape as an add on to the ereader "nook". I bet the next generation of eReaders will allow this. By the way the customer service at audible is fabulous.
Dear youcreateit,
Thank you for contacting Audible.com and I understand that you would like to know if you could download mp3 files of the titles in order to use on your Nook. At this time, your device is not compatible with Audible. Our files are not in the mp3 format, they are in the .AA file format.
The manufacturer of the Nook has chosen not to make this device compatible with the .AA file format. To make a device compatible with the .aa format means supporting our encryption, this protects the publishers’ copyrights as well as implementing key usability features, such as section navigation and resume playback.
Each manufacturer must be willing to alter the device firmware to make it compatible with Audible. Some manufacturers do not wish to make this change. This is why some devices are not compatible with our content.
I hope my response has answered your concern, as it has been a pleasure assisting you today. If you have any further questions, or need any further assistance please do not hesitate to call or write us back. Thank you for contacting us here at Audible and as always, have a great day and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Sincerely,
Lewis T.

I managed to get my Audible.com audiobooks as mp3s by burning them to disk, then copying to my computer. That was years ago, so I don't know if you can still do that.

The nook can store and play mp3 files. If you have an audio book that is in mp3 format, the nook will play it. There is a built in mono speaker and a stereo headphone jack.

There are many ways of converting any audio file to mp3 formant which can be played on the nook. This of course should only be done by the purchaser for their own use and not for distribution as if that needed to be said. There are also other providers even BN themselves of audio books that do provide them in mp3 format.

I have posted a solution to this, if you do a search you will probably find it. Audible files needs to be stripped of drm and converted to mp3 in order to be used with the nook. The nook uses standard mp3 format.
