When Will nook Ship? Updated Info on 11/12.

[ Edited ]

As with all hot consumer products, the sooner you order, the sooner you’ll receive nook.

The first nook pre-orders will begin shipping on or about Nov. 30. Orders placed today will ship on or about Dec. 11.

Please note that new orders placed after this update are expected to ship Dec. 18, with delivery by Dec. 25.

If you have not yet ordered, the anticipated ship date of your nook will be displayed after you click the pre-order button. If you have already ordered, your anticipated ship date can be found by clicking the Order Status link on the top right corner of this page.

As a reminder, you can pre-order nook online or at any Barnes & Noble store. nook orders placed in a store will be shipped to your address.

All Barnes & Noble stores will have nook demo models around Nov. 30. Our largest stores will have nook for sale in the store at that time.

Re: When Will nook Ship?

Well, so you are saying....

If I preorder today, I can't get it till after Dec. 11th.

But I can just go and buy it in the store on Nov. 30.

The store seems like a better deal in that case.

Re: When Will nook Ship?

If you pre-order, you can get it around the 11th of December. If you wait until the 30th, you can go to the store, find out that it isn't one of the 100 stores to get nook inventory to sell (as opposed to just demo), drive to your nearest store that does carry it (however far that may be), and find out that they are sold out but would be happy to put in an online order, and it will be delivered sometime the 3rd week of January. Your choice... :smileyhappy:

Re: When Will nook Ship?

Your answer of "on or about" worries me.   If you give a ship date of Dec. 11 hopefully your not going to ship LATER than the promised ship date.

Re: When Will nook Ship?

Kevin,

How can we find a list of those stores getting Nook samples prior to November 30th?  What stores will have inventory?  Any special events related to the Nook's arrival?

I haven't found anything yet when I search my local store(s) events list.

Thanks.

Re: When Will nook Ship?

As a person who ordered the book last week and told my ship date is Dec 11 how do you think I feel that somebody can walk in a store and get it before me?  Makes me want to cancel my order.

Kevin, we need some clarification on this:

Does this mean that regardless of where the pre-order is placed, it will ship Dec. 11th?

So, if you do have a store near you that will be carrying it, it would be better [as in, getting it sooner] to NOT pre-order and just pick one up on Nov. 30th?

Thanks

ALSO, does this "around Nov. 30th" mean that it will possibly be an earlier or later date?

Also, just a heads up to everyone else, this is right after Black Friday, haha. Fun stuff...

I don't think BN is doing anything differently than others retailers have.  They set aside a portion for in-store purchase and another for online purchase.  Online purchasing has exceeded their expectations (and most likely their stock) and they're pushing dates back from online orders to accomodate new requests.

I wouldn't be upset if someone walked into a store on Nov 30th and got their nook, simply because I had a 1-2 day wait time in shipping.  I would be upset if I walked in on Nov 30th and the store had no units or if there was a long line and they ran out of stock before I could buy one and I had to wait weeks more to get my hands on one via online order - which is why I pre-ordered.

I'll go into the store on the 30th, check it out and if I don't like it I'll return the pre-ordered one unopened for a refund.  If I do like it and they have an extra unit for sale I'll pick one up for my wife, if they don't have units for sale I'll wait a couple of days and one will be shipped to my house.  No biggie for me.

Re: When Will nook Ship?

if you pre order now then you are at least on the list.  Right now the ship date is pushed back to Dec 11.  So if you are lucky enough to have a B&N that will have them in stock on Nov 30 then just go buy it at the store and cancel your pre-order that day.  no biggie.  if your local B&N does not have them and you wait until Nov 30 to pre order, who knows your ship date might be after christmas????

Re: When Will nook Ship?

I think it is pretty easy to tell.  If you order today you will not get your Nook until at least 12/11/09.  I ordered mine last week and the ship date is 12/07/09.  I assume that people who placed their order on the day it was announced will get their orders shipped on 11/30/09.  The later you wait, the further out your delivery date will be.

Re: When Will nook Ship?

ordered mine today in store, and I have a ship date of 12/11.  I also wanted to note that the store has changed its sign so that "in-store" arrivals will not happen until 12/7 (instead of the original date of 11/30).  Apparently the demand is so high that they've had to delay the in-store shipments to accomodate all of the actual orders they've received.

(and my store is one of the busiest locations in manhattan, so if anyone is going to get in-store shipments, it's them).

Re: When Will nook Ship?

From what I understand, the B&Ns that will carry the nook will soon start to put up their sales kiosks for the nook front and center in the store.  B&N is devoting a lot to the nook - they are giving up the prime, prime real estate in their stores, and having store personnel dedicated to these kiosks, for the stores getting the in-store inventory of nooks.

Initially, it sounds like it is paying off - B&N reported to Wall St a day or two ago that pre-orders of the nook are strong, and the stock is up about 20% in the past week or so.

But, I certainly agree with someone else - go ahead and pre-order.  If you can't be there when the 100 stores open that will carry the nook in the store to buy one right away, you have your pre-order.  If you can get your hands on one early, it would be easy to cancel your pre-order online.  No big deal either way.  What you don't want is to not be able to get it in-store on Nov 30th, and then online orders made on or after Nov 30th are pushed back until after Christmas - that's NOT the boat you want to be sailing in...

Re: When Will nook Ship?

I placed my order five days ago, on Nov 7, and was given a shipping date of Dec 11. Anticipated shipping time: three days.

Not bad for a new item with a bunch of interested, prospective buyers.

Re: When Will nook Ship?

I have a huge, new B&N right in my neighborhood!  Coffee bar, lounge, the works.

So I figured no problem to just wait and buy it at the store.

I just called the store and they said "fuggitabouddit"

They aren't even a store that is going to get any to sell.  Sheesh, a big one like that.

I guess the run is on and I went ahead and pre-ordered, something I was not so inclined to do.

I guess they got me...it better get here for Christmas or BN is MUD.

Re: When Will nook Ship?

BTW, the store warned me in no uncertain terms not to count on buying one even at a store that will have the nook for sale.

From what he has seen and heard so far, anyone's stock is going to be gone in the first 10 minutes.

Hopefully he was overstating things, but for Christmas, who can take that chance?

You waited three weeks after B&N started taking pre-orders to put your order in, and you want to blame B&N if you don't get your nook before Christmas?

Sounds like you're pointing the finger in the wrong direction.

Re: When Will nook Ship?

Duh...yes I waited.  I wanted to actually look at one in real life.  Problem being that after checking for those  "demos" 3 weeks at several B&N stores, not one store had one I could look at.

On top of that, the word was that B&N would be selling these in the stores, so one could look and try out and buy.  This was supposed to happen on Nov. 30.

Not on Dec. 11th, at only 100 stores with very limited stock.

So point fingers wherever.
