crAZRick, Interesting Characters-- Writing Exercise

Not exactly ripped-from-the-headlines, but there is a story here, and I may be just the guy to find it:

Richard King, 35, writer, dreamer, amateur poker player, pays the bills between poker rounds by doing odd jobs, selling articles, working fast-food, construction, wherever money can be made. His home life is content but lonely at times; he has occasional girlfriends, used to have a wife, but now he just has his dreams of selling a novel, writing a screenplay, or winning the World Series of Poker which would open a few more doors and give him a few more Outs to accomplish those other two things.

What he lacks in social skills and solid financial backing, Rick makes up for with heart and humor. At the same time, his altruistic nature tends to do him more harm than good, getting him entangled with exactly the wrong sort of people at the worst possible times as he makes life-changes and career moves to suit others moreso than in pursuit of his personal goals. The fact that he is a dreamer is also a bit of an admirable flaw, in the sense that he has all these fantastic ideas and ideals, yet can’t quite muster what it takes to bring those dreams to fruition, which tends to take its toll.
