Discussion Topic: Questions about The Secret

My question is about applying the secret to My troubled relationship.   I have recently read the book the secret and fully believe that My negative thoughts of want I didn't want to happen is the reason that I am were I am now.  so I guess My question is if I ask the universe for something and truly believe that I will receive that dose it mater or effect what I want if  My spouse is wanting something totally different???  she has not read the secret but continues to stay consumed with negativity around me.  I want more than anything for us to be happy together again and that is what I have asked for although I fell that a little time apart may help our situation.  will this time apart be contradicting action for what I am asking the universe???  any info would be greatly appreciated and if needed I would be happy to better describe My situation to help come up with a better informed answer..  thank you for your time :-)
