I've also discovered that most people either love the book, hate it or have never read it. I know of a lot of people who think it's King's worst piece.
Unless of course you're my father, who rarely ever has strong feelings about things. He's the only one I've ever known to feel neutral on this book.
I loved the book so much that I was afraid to read Black House...even though so many people loved the book- even more than The Talisman, the claimed- I couldn't bring myself to read about little Jack Sawyer as a 30-year-old!
I did eventually get around to it, and I admit it was very good, but The Talisman will always be my favorite. :]
Of course, I would never forget The Dark Tower...but those are on a completely different level in my mind.

To be honest, i havent read a novel from him since the late 90's. He was the 1st author i ever read on my own accord. He tends to get too long winded, and over descriptive at times and it just bored me to death. I find it hard to keep interest and end up closing the book before i finish. Tommyknockers was one that i really really tryed to read, but just couldnt get through the duller chapters.
Eyes of the dragon kept my interest peaked throughout the entire novel.

I loved The Talisman. I also believe that in 50 years, the Dark Tower saga will be right up there with "Lord of the Rings".

***POSSIBLE ROSE MADDER SPILLERS******
I'm not trying to be TMI here, but we all love books (especially SK) and know how certain books can touch and change you. Rose Madder changed my life. I don't want to give too much away, but for those who have read it, remember the drop of blood on the pillowcase and what it signified to Rose? I was with an abusive man at the time I read it and I wondered if I would encounter the "drop of blood" moment. I did and it was just as SK (a man writing from an abused woman's point of view!) had written. It was amazing and the best thing that ever happened to me. My life and my daughter's life have been nothing but wonderful after that moment.

My apologies for being so long-winded, but I have nobody to talk books with and it's driving me insane. I just found these forums and you all are so nice, I had to get it out!

Powerful! The ultimate story of an outcast who gets her revenge.
Other favorites? Misery and The Shining.

I think my most painful moment while reading is in Misery when she does her trick with the ax. The movie changed that slightly but it's still makes me cringe every time.
The Darktower series is truly epic and not for the faint of heart. By the time I finished it, I almost felt like I had made the journey myself.
