Wow! I will say its a twist all right! I would have never guessed the ending of that. Wow! I thought for sure the present boyfriend would be dumped but not expecting what happened to the other intended one. Oh! my! That was a heartbreak! Not only to Nat but to me. I would have liked to see them united until the end!!!

Thasnks, Donti and Stephanie! I never work with an outline so the surprise ending is always a surprise - to me! I won't elaborate on this one because I don't want to spoil it for others who may not be there yet! xo

SPOILER: Folks - remember, we're in the later chapters in this thread, if you haven't finished the book, DO NOT read on!

Linda,

I felt disappointed too, but honestly, I didn't feel he was right for Nat for the long haul. I think somewhere in between boyfriend #1 and boyfriend #2 would be a nice mix. :smileywink:

Stephanie: You are so right! It usually takes a combo of those things to make a decent boyfriend! ha.

Agree!! I have a feeling that somewhere between boyfriend number one and boyfriend number two is the perfect choice. On this, however, I'm no expert.

Lisa; No Expert needed on this! You just to have to have known a man! Maybe five minutes;

Linda,

Five whole minutes? That's too long. LOL!

I didn't dislike either of these male characters, but if you're going to be a football extremist, you should probably find a woman who at least cares about the game and is interested in watching also. By the same token, if you're going to do the old hippie thing, find a woman who's along for that ride as well. We get along better when we have common interests, I think. For me, I could have never married a guy who didn't read.

You are certainly right? They have to love reading! What else is it?

Well, I guess we can pretend there is a perfect male out there! That is one that can read novels! Not just the Sports page of the local newspaper.

Me, too. What can I say? It didn't work out for them. For a while I thought that it might send her backsliding, but it's funny how characters really do write themselves sometimes. The whole plot was so out of her comfort zone that she really grew from it - she sees herself differently and her parents see her differently, especially her father. He's looking at her with new eyes. So she moves onward and upward! And I didn't want to force anything for the happy ending.

Re: Later Chapters Discussion: Revelations

I personally liked the ending, the fact that it didn't end like a happy fairy tale with the characters living happily ever after. Life is seldom like that. I prefer realistic stories that show the strength of women who are independent, strong, courageous, and self-reliant. That's been my own experience in my life and I can relate to it better than to a "happily ever after" ending.

Re: Later Chapters Discussion: Revelations

Here's how I look at it, lately. The ending of any book is just a snapshot, a point in time. So Nat didn't meet the right guy yet, but now she's a better person - and better able to make a real, mature relationship - and she will. Not to get too Dr. Phil on you, but I think it applies in life, too. No matter what the issue, romance or no. Any setback is just a snapshot of a point in time and that can change, especially if thigns are going wrong. I won't bore you with my life story but I had five years of rejection before anyone published me and I was completely, utterly broke. I lived on credit cards, and I was a single mom with a baby. I'm not complaining, but if you took a picture of me at year four of trying to get published, it wouldn't be a happy ending. Just as you say, life is full of those bad times. They come in waves. But every wave goes up again sopmetime, and I always told myself that, to persevere. It's a snapshot, and the only thing that matters is when you take the photo.

Lisa, I love that take on life. A snapshot! Only a look into - A photo taken again can change that -

I agree with kiakar. I like that take on life, too! A snapshot...I never thought of it like that.

Re: Later Chapters Discussion: Revelations

Thank you, Donti and kiakar. I don't know what happens to me online but I swear if I write late at night, like those entries, I get so reflective. I'm so glad you like it and I don't sound BONKERS. It's one of the main reason I love this book club - it's a way to really open up your heart and mind to people, and somehow the fact that it's not face-to-face makes it easier. It's part of the magic of books, too, and all art. I always thing of it like some literary associative principle - if we're both open to the same book, then we're open to each other. It's heart-to-heart!

A morning entry that's philosophical! xo
