I’m a writer. So, it’s safe to assume the word procrastinate is more than just a part of my vocabulary, it’s ingrained in my daily routine. Get out of bed. Drink coffee. Procrastinate. Drink more coffee. Procrastinate some more. You get the idea. I’m not naming names (Facebook, Twitter, Barnes & Noble), but I’m weak and can easily be swayed into spending time online when I should be meeting my deadlines.

Facebook: If your status report is a question asking your friends what they think you should write about, that can be considered working!

Twitter: C’mon, Lisa, tweet about how you should be writing but you’re shopping online instead! That counts for something!

Barnes & Noble: If you’re checking out the new releases you don’t have to feel guilty. You need to keep up with the latest published books!

Or if it’s not the online “demons” that tempt me, it’s the innocent enough looking novels that I’ve recently purchased that are stacked neatly next to my laptop. I know I shouldn’t, but before I know it, I’m sitting in my comfy leather chair in the corner, reading…

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella sucked me in from page one. And I swear to you that the day I grabbed it off my desk, I was only going to read for thirty minutes- tops! You know how some people take a coffee break? Well, in the time I could’ve consumed five pots of java, I ended up finishing the fascinating story of a girl who’s visited and challenged by the ghost of her great aunt. And not that I recommend procrastination, per se, but if you must, I recommend this exciting distraction!

I’d wanted to read Crossing Washington Square by Joanne Rendell since the day it arrived in the mail the week before. But I’d made a deal with myself that I couldn’t so much as

look at the synopsis on the back cover until after I finished my latest project. Well, it started innocently enough. I opened it and read the first sentence and then it was like a delicious bag of chips. I could Not. Put. It. Down. And I don’t regret it. I loved this story of two female professors who are archenemies but end up finding they have more in common than they thought—like their taste in handsome Harvard professors!

I love Megan Crane’s books. So, I should’ve known better than to set her latest, Names My Sisters Call Me, next to my laptop. By now, you know how this story turns out. (Mine, not hers!) I ended up finishing her witty novel about three sisters: Two have been feuding for years and the third must finally play mediator once she becomes engaged and needs to plan her wedding. And it was worth it! And at least I stopped procrastinating long enough to write this blog post!

What books are simply too hard for you to resist?

Fun read.  Thanks for making me feel a bit less guilty  -  or if not less guilty then at least not all alone in my procrastination!  Have only read one of the three books but can heartily attest to the suck-me-inishness of Ms Kinsella's Twenties Something Girl.  I  -  loved  -  that  -  book!

More, please.

And more fun articles by you if you don't mind (will be watching as I also need something to read when deadlines loom and I feel that urgent need to procrastinate)!

Thanks,

Jen

Whenever I start reading a Jodi Picoult book, I know I won't be able to focus on anything else until it's done. I just started The Pact, and it's the same way so far!

bookworm-mia, I've read The Time Traveler's Wife and saw the movie- loved both. How are you liking the other series? I haven't read them. PS: I cheat on books with other books all the time. I'm a total book swinger!
