With my wedding fast approaching (only two months to go!), I’m making a checklist of what to pack for the honeymoon.

Sunscreen. Check.

Husband. Check.

Chick Lit. Check.

I hear the nook is amazing, but for now, I’m sticking with the “book.” You know, that thing with a cover, a spine, and a bunch of paper in the middle? I realize the “book” isn’t as compact or high tech or easy. (Um, did I mention easy?) I know that if I was the proud owner of a nook, I could simply download my books in 60 seconds, slide my sleek little nook in my carry-on and call it a day. But for now, I’ll have to make room for my books in my suitcase. Room that would normally be designated for really, really important things like shoes. Because even in Maui, you can’t have enough espadrilles, wedges, heels…the list goes on. So, as I fly to celebrate my own happy ending, I’ve decided only my most beloved Chick Lit (written by the queens of Chick Lit) can make the trip.

I’ll definitely forgo a couple of bikinis to make room for anything by Jane Green. Jemima J, is the story of the very likeable Jemima who sends a picture of someone she thinks is prettier than she is to a man she wants to date, then has to scramble when he wants to meet her. (Oops!) (BTW—Green’s last novel, The Beach House, is also fab!)

I’m also willing to leave my favorite beach bag behind so I can bring The Guy Not Taken by Jennifer Weiner.  It goes without saying that Good in Bed and In Her Shoes are fantastic. But there's just something about the The Guy Not Taken that I love. And at the end of this series of short stories, I’m left wanting more (always a good sign!), and feel that she could've developed several of these stories into novels! Jennifer, if you're reading this, you should do that!

It will be worth the effort of sitting on top of my bag and yanking the zipper closed if it allows me to make room for one last book, Something Blue by Emily Giffin. In this follow-up novel to Something Borrowed, you’re reading the same story only this time told from the perspective of Darcy, who gets her fiancé stolen by her best friend in Something Borrowed (hence the title). What I LOVE about this “she said, she said” story is that in the first book you think Darcy is shallow and conceited. But once you hear her side of the story, you find yourself rooting for her and wanting her to find her happy ending!

But as much as I love my Chick Lit, my husband is hoping there won’t end up being much time to read. :smileywink:  xoxo -- Lisa

Which chick lit books would you not leave home without?

Lisa Steinke, along with her best friend Liz Fenton, co-authored the chick lit novel I’ll Have Who She’s Having and co-created the popular Chick Lit blog, Chick Lit is Not Dead.

In Her Shoes and Prodical Summer are my 2 fav chick lit.  The Book Club is another I can read again and again.  Currently I am reading Alphabet Weekends by Elizabeth Noble.  This book will stay on my chick lit list for a long time.
