Is there an author that you absolutely love? That you’d buy any book they wrote, not even knowing what it's about? Well for me, that author is Emily Giffin. And to put it mildly, since discovering Something Borrowed many moons ago, she’s been one of my all-time favorite authors. In fact, my writing partner Liz and I credit her with motivating us to write our own book. After we read Something Borrowed and Something Blue, we knew it was time to get off our booties, stop making excuses, and start writing! (Thanks, Emily!)
And each time Giffin writes another novel, one (or both!) of us begs for an advance reader copy (ARC). And we devour it in one day, maybe two. Because her writing is so easy. So relatable. So seemingly effortless. And from word one, we’re lost in the pages, flipping through with reckless abandon, anxious for the next page but equally as anxious about not wanting to reach the end. Which is what happened with her latest, and in our opinion, best novel yet, Heart of the Matter.
Lucky for us, our begging paid off and we each received an ARC of HOTM. (Sorry to all the people we taunted with it!) And we both fell in love with story of Valerie Anderson (an attorney and single mom) and Tessa Russo (a married stay-at-home mom), whose paths cross after a tragic accident brings them together in a way they could have never imagined. Told from the alternating points of view of Tessa and Valerie as they each struggle to deal with the most heartbreaking circumstances and are forced to question their lives in ways they never thought possible. (PS: I’m just going to admit it now, tears were shed. By me.) I highly recommend this book. Click here to read chapter one!
In celebration of the release of HOTM, Emily stopped by our site, Chick Lit Is Not Dead, today. And in the spirit of our regular feature “5 Things Liz & Lisa Didn’t know About…” Emily gives us not 5, not 7, but 12 fun tidbits about herself that she’s never before revealed (well to people like us anyway—we’re pretty sure her husband and family and close friends know that she can recite the alphabet backwards. If we could do that, we’d tell the world!). And she reveals these dozen things on video! (If you comment you can be entered to win a hardback or an audio copy of her book—narrated by the fabulous Cynthia Nixon.)
We love Emily not just because she’s a fantastic writer and not just because she inspired us to write, but also because she’s so accessible to her fans. Like how she keeps us up to date on the latest happenings on the set of the upcoming Something Borrowed (or “Sobo” as Giffin calls it) movie. So, if you haven’t already, get a copy of Heart of the Matter, and if you’re not already, follow Emily on Facebook and Twitter so you can stay in the know!

I couldn't agree any more. It is pretty ironic how I found YOU through Emily. Got super jealous that you already READ HOTM. Found out about Sarah Pekkanen from YOU. Fell in love with The Opposite of Me. Ended up winning ARC of HOTM from Sarah Pekkanen. Fell in love with Tessa, Valerie & Nick's story. Not to mention the cameo from some much loved characters from books past.
xoxo

I find Emily Giffin's books target serious topics of everyday life, but also adds humor that is so important in keeping a bright outlook. I too find myself absorbed in her books, turning page after page until my new friends are no longer with me (or at least that is how it feels when I finish one of Ms. Giffin's books). Breathlessly awaiting her new book.
