I’ve gone country! Grab me a pair of boots, some faded jeans, and don’t forget the cowboy (definitely don’t leave him out) because I’m ready to head to Texas and live on a ranch. But did I mention said ranch must come equipped with a sexy bull-riding man like Dane Kelly (even his name is hot) in Jane Porter’s upcoming novel, She’s Gone Country.
I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of She’s Gone Country, the story of former top model Shey Darcy who moves her three boys back home to Texas after her husband announces he’s fallen for someone else. From the moment I picked it up and started reading it, I couldn’t put it down (love when that happens!). Through Shey's fabulous writing and attention to detail, Porter transported me into a rural world that, as a city girl, I would’ve never thought I’d find as appealing as I did. She’s Gone Country is out this August. You can pre-order it here. Trust me, you’ll love it… and you'll be planning a trip to the country (or, at the very least, fantasizing about it) before you know it.
While you’re waiting for that book to be released (it’s not that long) Flirting with Forty is another fabulous Porter novel about picking up the pieces after divorce. It’s the story of Jackie Laurens who, after discovering her husband’s affair and getting a divorce, heads to Hawaii to face the big 4-0. And when Jackie least expects it, she falls for her much younger and very sexy (this must be a theme!) surfing instructor. But despite the budding romance, she struggles with the judgment she receives from disapproving friends over their age difference and the guilt she feels trying to juggle the relationship while being a single mother to her children. You might recall it was made into a Lifetime movie starring Heather Locklear and Robert Buckley (remember he also played “boy toy” Kirby in Lipstick Jungle?! Which, btw, should never have been cancelled!)
Odd Mom Out is another of Porter’s novels that you should read if you haven’t already. It’s about single mom Marta Zinsser, who moves back home to the Seattle suburbs when her mother becomes ill. Marta had fled those same suburbs ten years before and headed to New York where she lived a very independent life (she chose to have a baby without a man). But her life choices have never been questioned—until she enrolls her daughter in the local school and comes face-to-face with moms that are nothing like her and don’t exactly welcome her with open arms. Suddenly, she feels like the odd mom out. Oh, and don’t worry, there’s a sexy man in this one too…
