nook Joins Imus in the Morning

MillionDollarThrow.jpgOur colleagues over in marketing for nook have joined forces with Imus in the Morning to sponsor the new Imus Book of the Week program.

Imus will kick off the program during tomorrow morning's broadcast with Million-Dollar Throw, a young adult novel by sports columnist and author Mike Lupica.

Million-Dollar Throw (also available, of course, in hardcover) is the inspirational story of Nate "Brady" Brodie, an 8th-grade football quarterback who gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance to throw a pass through a target at a New England Patriots game -- and win one million dollars.

The segment airs Wednesdays about 7:10 a.m. As always, we can't wait to hear what the I-man has to say (about the book -- and nook).

I am thinking about buying a Nook. And then I look at the blog and find that you are teaming up with that moron Imus. Why ally yourself with someone who is so contentious? Hey why not go all the way and be endorsed by Rush Limbaugh?

You have to be careful who you pal up with in marketing because they can turn off a whole bunch of people. I am less inclined to even look at one in the store.

This is really quite disturbing news.  I have a Nook on pre-order and when I see B&N hooking up with the likes of this drug-addled racist, it makes me re-consider my order.  This, combined with today's news about being sued by the makers of the Alex e-reader have got me going "Hmmmm."

Yikes.  Where's my Christmas list again?

by WestOf8th on 11-05-2009 01:39 PM

What... that drunken fool can read??

by Stickybeak on 11-05-2009 01:55 PM

Wow, I am SO glad I decided against buying a Nook now.  Heck, I'm not even going to spend my hard-earned dollars at B&N any more. Just the thought of that weirdo makes my skin crawl.

How disturbing! Imus as in DON "drunken racist" Imus? Are we suppossed to be excited about this news? B&N please choose better partners in the future. I was really excited about the nook and was going to but one for myself, my sister and my husband but I think I'll be purchasing two more Kindles instead and keeping my own. Thanks, but nope.

Imus?  Really?  Do you guys know your demographic here?  While I applaud Imus for encouraging people to do something positive, like read...I  think your relationship with Imus will be a turn off to many B&N customers. It's not a deal breaker for me, but it is certainly confusing.  I hope you guys aren't going to hook up with Hannity or Beck next.  I am sure you can find less controversial figures to lead national book groups.  I mean... I really hope so.

Each day I'm finding a new reason to doubt my pre-order.

Don Imus??  Having Don Imus with associated with Barnes and Noble is a HUGE turnoff for me.  I don't want to think about turning on a nook and seeing his face or any of his book suggestions.

There has to be a better pitch person available.  I am completely disgusted.

I am a regular customer at B&N stores but I admit I own a Kindle...they just beat you to it...for now!  But IMUS!  I have found him to be simple in his analysis.  Hence, I am not sure he reads....are you going to sponsor his kids' camp too? While that may be a noble endeavor, I am sick of listening to his holier-than- thow attitude!

Are you desperate or is Imus???

I agree with the comments in all of the previous 9 posts.  In fact, when I noticed this blog's headline listing Don Imus as a prospective marketing partner of B&N's, I had to log in just to learn more and to see what others thought about this.

Citycat--you're dead on--I don't think B&N knows it's demographic, but then again Glenn Beck's book is a best seller--scary stuff.

Stickbeat--I agree with you--I'm going to boycott and research the heck out of the Alex, the e-reader to be introduced by Spring Design(lawsuit pending, mentioned by copynik)

LOL at Westof8th's comment :-)

I was not aware that there was a specific demographic for Barnes and Noble?  I always thought of it as a place for people who loved books.  Nothing else was considered.  Would anyone feel better if Barnes and Noble teamed up with Rosie O'Donnell?  Are we to rate a product by the spokesperson or by the merits of the product?  We would all be living very austere lives if the opinion of a spokesperson actually mattered.

This is funny...the first 10 commenters claim they are potential Nook buyer and avid readers yet they seem to have problems with the 1st amendment.  I highly doubt any of them have any intention of buying a Nook or ever actually reading a book.  However, I hope they do cancel their Nook order since pre-order deliveries are now pushing Christmas...and I would like to receive mine sooner.

Thank you B&N for developing a great product and for believing in free speech for all and not just those with whom we agree.  The censorship by the first 10 commenters make me wonder if they all work in the White House press office (and the fact that they are whining about a joke is even more entertaining).

In fact, the one I have on order is a gift.  I may order two if I can get earlier shipping.  Come on you close-minded, insecure whiners...cancel, please!

@Latwanda just be cause you dont want to align yourself with a biggot and idiot, doesnt mean you have a problem with free speech. Hell, we let you talk.
