Both novels have as the main character a heroine who is pretty much alone in the world. They are both called upon to make their way through life with no help from anyone. They both end up teaching as an occupation and they both speak French...(Lucy more through necessesity than anything
Lucy is not as outspoken or strong minded as Jane is I do not think. You hardly ever hear any passionate outbursts from her as you quite often did from Jane...though I feel like they are sometimes one in the same. Lucy experiences were drawn mainly from Charlotte Brontë's own life....from the period of time that she taught in Brussels, Belgium. A lot of the situations and instances were biographical...like the legend of the nun, ect.
